![]() Reach and Roll By Erika Larkin on 8/1/12
I see the dreaded "chicken wing" with a lot of my students. When the left arm/elbow (for a righty) pulls in and bends around the torso just after impact it can cause a pull slice, a nasty hook or sometimes even a toed or topped shot depending on how dramatic the movement is. With some golfers, repeating this move over time results in tendonitis in the elbow or forearm as well. So beware, this swing fault is very common and can be quite detrimental to you and your ball striking.
To avoid the chicken wing and the misses that come with it, you need to exaggerate extension of the arms and rotation of the hands, so I would sum up the swing fix by saying "Reach and Roll":

Hooters has All you can eat wings today :) Wings Wednesdays :) Man, the ROLL is my biggest issue with my golf swing... I dont roll at all (damn Cricket habit). That reminds me I gotta get out there and work on that... sigh 8/1/12
I have a real issue with the idea of rolling the right hand over because of the split-second timing involved in order to get the club-head square at impact. Surely you're giving yourself too much to do! Not that I really know what the alternative is... 8/1/12
yea seems too easy to over cook a draw when you bring alot of wrist action into the golf swing. I try to picture Steve Stricker, fewer moving parts the better. 8/1/12
Learning to REACH came to me at the same time I learnt to keep my head down and look through the shot at the ball position. The ROLL part is just not there yet, but i need to work on it (ill start tonight at the range) 8/1/12
This is a one-way ticket to the shanks for a lot of golfers out there. Been there, done that. This article gave me chills just thinking about it. 8/1/12
