High Scoring Sucker!
Well, There Goes That Exercise Idea
By Kickntrue on 6/9/08
Golf as exercise is great in theory until I read this study that shows that walking can greatly increase your score. So much for exercise. (Story)

I must be in the minority then. All of my best rounds came when I walked (and was younger, hmmm). I find my swing can get lazy when I ride.

Also, the way they tested this was completely unrealistic. They had them hit 20 shots, then walk a mile, and repeat it 6 times. You never walk a mile at a time on the course, nor do you hit 20 straight shots.

I dunno... all I heard was "blah blah blah walking is bad. blah blah blah don't walk."

ya, i don't understand why they "simulated a golf game". seems like it would have been easier to just compare actual golf games.

klangdon says:
i adhere to the theory that walking 2 rounds cost about the same as riding 1. so playing double the golf on the same dollar has to be better for your game.

I don't think walking has anything to do with it unless you physically can't handle it. What gets me is how heavy the bag starts feeling on the back 9. If you have a push cart then there should be very little fatigue factor. That dude has a remote controlled cart!
and like kenjab said, all of my best rounds have come when I walked.

I prefer to walk and when I ride it distracts my game. Though I dont notice much of a difference in my score. I do tend to be in the rough more often when I ride. As klangdon says you can play twice as much on the same dollar so that works for me.

Actally... after further review out of the 11 scores I have posted the only 3 rounds I rode were actally my 3 highest scores so I guess walking does help my score.

Kickntrue says:
Skulptor- but on what courses? i find that i ride when the courses are tougher because they are usually longer, have more elevation, and often require riding because they are more upscale and charge more.

I notice in my development report that my strokes over par are almost an exact mirror image of my GIR. Hmmmm...I think I need to focus on more GIR's!

That was 2 rounds on cherry Island and one at plumas lakes. 9 of my rounds are cherry island so the 2 worst at that course were riding, the other 7 were walking
