I Bet This Guy Is Fired

After mistakenly treating the course at Haywards Heath Golf Club with weed killer instead of water, the course has closed and will remain that way until the spring of 2009. The West Sussex, UK course saw eleven of their eighteen holes destroyed after the weed incident. Weed killer is often used to kill grass that pops up between the cracks in cement sidewalks. When sprayed on the course, it essentially burned the grass. The club's response to the incident, send out an apology to members and wait till spring. Although most of the costs will be covered by the club's insurance, I would not be too happy if I were a member. Those groundskeepers better seek out a new career. I'm no botanist but I'm pretty sure I could tell the difference between weed killer and good old high quality H2O.

Here's the article.

Man that is ridiculous. This almost seems like something that would have been done to lash out. I wonder if he did it on purpose.

That's exactly what I thought, Josh

There has to be more to this. I could see them getting an fertilizer container mixed with weed killer- esp in an industral container type situation. The story says they mixed killer up with water though. I don't see how you mix anything up with a hose.

I think the greenskeeper was trying to make the course more links-style where the type of grass doesn't matter...plus its usually brown anyways!

Doesn't make any sense, how much weed killer did they have on hand? they don't have sprinklers with H2O like other courses, so this guy thought he was spraying water? does the guy have nose or not? YOUR FIRED!

I bet this was more than weedkiller. Unless of course these fairways looked like hell to start with. Probably something like ROUNDUP! 100% Herbicide !!!

FAIL! Yes indeed LOL

As someone who's worked on a golf course for almost a decade, there's absolutely no way you mistake any herbicide (weed killer) for water. There's no way in hell you dump it in the sprayer going "Oh, this is just jugs of water". LoL Something tells me this guy was giving a big middle finger to the golf course over something, and then moving on.

Not to mention, based on the picture given, it was put out with a sprayer, not something with the sprinklers and a "fertigation" system. Just my opinion

Gallup 360 is the same active ingredient as Roundup, it seems he picked the wrong can when spraying for weeds on the fairways.
