John Daly To Help Lengthen Course
By Kickntrue on 7/23/08
John Daly a course designer? It's in the works. It isn't totally clear what John's roll is in the project but he revealed that he will be assisting in a project that will turn a Missouri course, Eagle Creek Golf Club at Downstream, into one of the longest in the world at over 8000 yards that will someday be able to host pro events.
He said: "It's fun. I love doing it. The good thing is for me where the game is going, the golf courses are going to get longer and longer and longer, and it's good for me because I've always liked to play long golf courses. I'm going to try and make golf courses where you almost have to hit driver on all the par-5s and par-4s, unless the land just doesn't permit it."

In true Daly fashion- it was also revealed that the site will have a casino.

Story (Plus a fun look at other long courses.)

Kind of related, he has a "signature course" in Niagara Falls Canada, about 30 minutes from my home....not sure if he helped design it or not...

Check it out

I am sure that John Daly's most important design to those golf courses, in fact his only "design" influence is that there will be a beer stand and cigarette tent on every hole, along with a Coca-Cola soda pop cooler on every tee. On the long, long par 5's, two beer stands and two cigarette tents! And maybe by the time those courses are opened he will have an ex-wife on every hole to take in all the concession profits making sure they get their cut of the alimony and child support! GO BIG JOHN!!!

DroptheGloves, yeah he did help design Thundering Waters in Niagara Falls. If you ever get the chance to play it, let me know how it is.

I just recently played Wicked Stick in Myrtle Beach, I believe his first signature course, and had the time of my life. The staff was very friendly and very helpful.

Now, I am not too naive to believe that everybody likes John Daly. I am a huge fan of his, however I am willing to hear the criticism about him. And there is plenty to hear. I know he has messed up alot and he has wasted alot of his talent. I was a huge fan growing up and I just cant help to want to see him succeed. Hopefully, he will do better with his golf course design career than what he has done with the winnings from his golf career.

drew1473: In 1986 I had the sincere pleasure to meet John Daly at a barbeque hosted by Fuzzy Zoeller, Daly's former mentor, and still friend. Fuzzy only allowed Daly to drink Coca-Cola the whole day and night! Good for Fuz! Daly was very amicable and pleasant to be around, although I only got to talk with him a few minutes. Daly was ever so grateful to Fuzzy because he (Fuzzy) and Fuz's wife took him more or less under their wing and into their family and he (Daly) openly admitted those were some of the best years of his life! As well they should have been. Yet as is the horrible plight of an alcoholic Daly did some backsliding, fell off Fuzzy's "wagon" and faded into almost obscurity as a golfer and person. (More)

John Daly has had every opportunity to stay "clean" with the help of many, many, people, Fuzzy, to mention only one. Yet the alcohol DNA in his blood and chemistry won out more times than did the "clean up" genes! What a shame and pity that the guy fights so many demons and devils found in alcohol! I criticize him as a public figure, but empathize with him as an individual. I think Butch Harmon did irreputable harm to Daly to save his own ass and reputation. What a selfish p---k! Hopefully John Daly will get over Butch Harmon's condescending attitude and quotes about him. That is going to be one of the toughest battles Daly is going to face in the near future! And SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, on Harmon for his thoughtless remarks! One has only to look at John Daly's face to see how his own lifestyle and hard knocks has affected him. Clean it up, John. And thank God and your lucky stars for GOLF and the world of opportunity it has given you to make a "New Start". God has a design. Live up to it!

Thanks for the insight PapaJoe. I finished Daly's book, My Life In and Out of the Rough, about 2 weeks ago. I hope and pray that one day Daly will see everything he has gained and lost in his lifetime and straighten out.

I have been a very avid sports fan for many years. Well, 24 years old minus 5 years, since I cant really remember much before that, so around 19 years. As a kid, I always wanted to be like my dad, so I cheered for Greg Norman and John Daly, cuz thats who dad said were really good and could be really good respectively. Just like I cheer for the Alabama Crimson Tide, while growing in Tennessee, big sin according to Tennessee Fans.

But thats how I became a John Daly fan. I do agree that Butch Harmon did do irreputable harm to Daly, and it will probably be something that affects Daly for a long time to come. PapaJoe, you are very knowledgeable I need to start picking your brain. Haha, have a good one and God Bless!

Daly also has his name on a course in Branson, MO "John Daly's Murder Rock". I don't think he had any part in designing it though. That was where his now infamous youtube clip playing in jeans with no shirt or shoes on took place.

I guess John Daly's idiot episodes on and off the golf course only proves one thing: "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE INTELLIGENT TO BE A GOOD GOLFER!" So, let's go at it all you lame brains. (And I tend to include myself in that category except I would NEVER play without wearing a shirt). But being from Kentucky... "Well, shucks y'awl, it only natural to play with no shoes!!"

And Drew... if you can find a brain to pick inside this rock, go ahead, give it a try! After ToddR has beat me over the head for the past few weeks I'll have to do some deep searching to find some of those old synapse.

Drew1473: What's wrong with the Crimson Tide? Those boys are as tough as they come, not to mention one hell of a record if you exclude the losses! Ha! Ha! Seriously, the "Tide" have always had, and still do, one of the best records in the SEC. Forget the criticism from the Tennessee boys. They all practice too much with their left hand, especially the golf squad. The coach's theory behind that? If you can't do it with your right hand, you ain't worth a crap! (Inside info I got from one of Tennessee's best 1965 golfing grads). Cheers!

After contacting oobGolf's webmasters and managers hopefully I/we have solved the problem of the "Idiot" PapaJoe posing as the "Real" PapaJoe. Thank you guys. Hopefully you have identified the moron making the senseless and idiotic remarks under my name, The Real "PapaJoe". What a shame that people like that exists and try to spoil what is a good web site for other people! Even if I may have raised the "ire" of someone on this web site, there should be no cause for that person to screw it up for everyone else! I will be posting this message on several article forums, "Fore Play", "Cigar Lounge," and on every other public forum that exists on oobGolf to hopefully prevent idiots such as they are to screw up the works for the rest of us. I write this as the "Real PapaJoe" and give you my personal e-mail of: papajoehermit@juno.com for anyone to check out the legitimacy of my honesty. Thank you. JGoff, Louisville, KY.
