I'm going to bet most of you have never heard of Kenny Egan or any of his teammates. Egan is currently battling it out in Beijing as the Irish Olympic boxing captain. He and his teammates are trying to acquire the first medal for the country in this years games. So what does this have to do with golf? Well like most people, Egan has a hero. Yet unlike most, Egan had the chance to meet his hero, fellow countryman, Padraig Harrington. In case you've forgotten, Harrington has won back-to-back Majors in recent weeks.
Last year the boxer traveled to Harrington's home in Rathmichael, Ireland to "have a good chat" with his hero. Egan was inspired by Harrington's honesty and attitude. He also took away some sound advice from the golfer about preparation. Egan brought these thoughts with him to the 2008 Olympics, where he became even more inspired after Harrington's back-to-back victories. Egan is doing well so far and has moved into the semi-final rounds. His next fight will be on Tuesday and will guarantee the winner at least a Bronze medal. Hopefully for Ireland, Harrington's inspiration will lead Egan to victory again.
