Woods Will Not Show In Valhalla
By Kickntrue on 9/17/08
Despite rumors Tiger Woods insists he will not show up at Valhalla Golf Club this weekend to cheer on the USA in the Ryder Cup.
Jeez- I can't wait for Friday and the Ryder Cup to start so I can start posting REAL golf news. Expect some fun videos later today! Better yet- go out and play a round of golf with One Club.
Story... if you can call it that

does that surprise anyone, he is not a team player for the most part and the enjoyment of the game is not enough if he is not playing. there is no 'I' in team, only in NIKE.... lol
I wish the USA squad all the best... go USA...
IT doesn't surprise me at all. You're right, Tiger is NOT a team player. Regardless of wether or not he has a bum knee, a business meeting or whatever is going on, he should still be out there as an ambassador for the game. I'm sure there's some BS reason behind it like "if Tiger shows up then everybody is going to be following him around and not watching the match, disturbing the players, etc etc etc." To an extent i'm sure something like that COULD happen, but i don't think it would. This is the Ryder cup. it's not a PGA tournament. It's for national pride and not just individual glory. Having TW there or not isn't going to matter, but again, as an ambassador of the game i think he SHOULD be there. at least for a little bit.
I'm straight down the fairway on this one, on one hand I feel he should show up just out of the spirit of it. On the other hand, he's not a team player, that's why he's dominated the game the way that he has. At the end of the day, does it really matter if he's there or not?? I say no. There are athlete's and there are athletic supporters, Tiger is nobody's cheerleader. I would be amazed if he showed up. It probably goes against every fiber in his body to be a team player, but that's what makes him Tiger.
"At the end of the day, does it really matter if he's there or not??
I say todd your right about that. it doesn't matter and birdie is right too that the media attention that would surround him with stupid questions as to when is he going to play again would distract from what is really at hand, and that is to win back the cup in roaring fashion... in some ways its great to be a superhero, then theres the other side that he can't even do simple things without a swarm of media people hoping to get a story out of him. I say its better that he rest up and watch the U S team take to the rest and if anything buy all the champagne and drinks for everyone there. that would do more good than anything else and get him good media press too...
One side note, I think that the main reason Tiger is not a team player is because it's hard for someone at his level to deal with players that are not capable of playing to his level. The "Superstar" players in any sport very rarely make great coaches.
Career Ryder Cup Performance for Tiger

your kidding right, he can be beat on any given sunday just like anyone else. and who were the guys on the stats that beat him...lol no I disagree with you on that for sure, you say superstar, I say supernot....
heres a few more he hasn't gotten yet
most PGA wins.....
Sam Snead - 82
Jack Nicklaus - 73
*Tiger Woods - 65
Ben Hogan - 64
Arnold Palmer - 62
if it all ended today cause of his knee and all, he would not have beaten Sams/Jacks all time wins record and theres lots of other records he hasn't broken either, so until he has, he is just another golfer chasing down the dream.
Hey blue, If you read the post it says "one side note", I wasn't still talking about the Ryder Cup. But since you brought it up, personally I think the Ryder Cup is a joke, I'm on record for calling it a "party disguised as a golf event". You can't seriously be keeping track of any of the Ryder cup stats are you?? You're obviously a numbers guy, but by your assessment, Sam Snead is the best golfer ever?? Good luck with that argument.
Thanks for pointing out that Tiger can be beat on any given Sunday, I had no idea:)
Jus so I understand, you're saying Tiger isn't a Superstar because he hasn't won the most PGA wins?
Just so I understand, you're saying Tiger isn't a Superstar because he hasn't won the most PGA wins?
everyone has there own ideal of a superstar status and mine includes more than what I get from him, no doubt he is remarkable, just not a superstar to me. I suppose I have higher standards. the Ryder cup reference was to show that he isn't perfect nor is he so far above the rest of other golfers that he can't be beaten. you had said above and I quote "it's hard for someone at his level to deal with players that are not capable of playing to his level". I just say there are a lot of gifted golfers out there who play just as well and don't get the hype he does, thats all. the numbers don't lie either, if like I said he was to not win again for some reason would he be the best player of all time, you would have to concede NO... so until he reaches or passes that mark I just see him as a great golfer.
ps, I knew you knew about sundays....lol
Can you name me one.."gifted golfer out there who play just as well and don't get the hype he does"? I don't quite understand where you got this can't be beaten thing from, I know for a fact I never said that. As far as his level goes, for 10 years they have been trying to find someone to give Tiger a real run for his money for more than 1 week. First it was going to be David Duval, then it was Ernie Els, then it was Sergio, then Phil, and why not even throw Vijay in there, now they're starting to talk about Padraig (I think it was actually Padraig that said Padraig). At the end of the day, he's just better than they are. Can they beat him on any given Sunday,,, of course they can, that's golf. He is still the best golfer on the planet RIGHT NOW. Are you sticking by Sam Snead as being the best ever?
One other question, who do you consider a "Superstar"?
I don't quite understand where you got this can't be beaten thing from, I know for a fact I never said that
no you didn't you stated thanks for pointing out that tiger could be beat on sunday, and the other quote was,"it's hard for someone at his level to deal with players that are not capable of playing to his level". I took that as he was unbeatable... sorry
Hype, I'm just tired of all the hype on him and when hes not around they still say things like only if tiger was here, he's not and thats it.
as far a hype for others out there, Phil gets his fair share and I like Kenny Perry has had a good run of late, and I think that A Kim may be a up and comer for a run at things.
the reason no one stands out I think is that there game changes from week to week and there just isn't just one person who runs away with it.
superstars.... in golf I have none I suppose, JACK and Arnie are high up for me, as well as likable guys like Payne Stewart and Lee Trevino who were not greats but made golf fun to watch and enjoyed playing the game too...
superstar for me, Jeremy McGrath from supercross who won 250cc Supercross Championships: 7 times(1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000) and he was a super nice guy who was way humble. hes one. the other, my dad for teaching me golf and giving me values and a sense of humor. I have some other superstars but they are not golfers either. but they give it there all and give back way more.
Sam Snead, well he only has the most wins so far and Jack has the majors. but Jack is still my favorite golfer for now, I'm still waiting to see where Tiger goes after his return if he can. this makes his 4th knee operation and thats not good. I hope I covered everything for you.
blue needs a hug
