A golf club... seriously? He should be hung.
"Tradition" Can Suck
By Kickntrue on 10/30/08
A Korean father of two boys in Utah was using golf clubs to discipline his sons becuase that it's "traditional" in Korea to punish with sticks. First things first- this isn't funny at all, especially to the two boys being abused. The children are now under the care of child services.

That said- maybe there is something we can relate and learn about golf here- in the area of traditions. Are there golf traditions that exist becuase they always have that in this day and age don't make sense? For me- I think dress code is out-dated. Are there any golf traditions you find dumb?

Requiring pros to sign their score cards or be disqualified. With TV and all the other officials on the course, why should a player lose if they don't sign the stupid card?

For as fast and sloped as greens are... taking penalty strokes for the wind blowing the ball I find to be a bit much.

Updating the dress code to include shorts for guys would be acceptable. They let amateurs wear them. Ladies can wear just about anything they want.

hey back on the subject of discipline, today's parents and time outs or no discipline is a joke, when I grew up there was the belt or spankings. I don't resent it or even think twice about it today. but I do respect my elders and say please and thank you.
today's kids, some are out of control... example: high school team of 12 kids on the putting and chipping area, ages 14/17. there are 15 flags to hit to and its huge. 4 kids walk over right in front of me off in the corner and stand there getting ready to play there shots. excuse me guys, I'm chipping to that pin. as they turn around and say, hey were on a golf team and this is ours for the next 2 hrs... really I said. then they said why don't you go over to the driving range and practice there... that is the kind of disrespect kids now days are growing up with. the pro shop was notified and they were asked to leave till there coach showed up. I never did get an apology from the coach or the kids... time outs, yeah right.

I got one beating in my life. It was enough to know the 2nd one could come at any time to keep me in line. Kids today are taught if they are hit, yelled at too loudly or even deprived of the latest Jonas' Brothers CD they should contact Social Services. What's wrong with good old-fashioned discipline? Using a golf club is extreme, but then again, so is doing nothing.

its a different world we live now days, kids who only have friends on my space, bosses who send e-mails cause they don't want to tell you face to face, wars waged on video monitors with kids in a war room sending bombs and people who have never had kids or been married telling us how to raise them and what is acceptable punishment. yes its a different world we live in, yet some things never change and that is the truth, integrity, respect, and honesty to play this game we call golf, and to test ones self penitence, commitment, and moral to enjoy it.
