Horse Track Full Of Balls
By Kickntrue on 1/15/09
The Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California is a host of many things, inculding a golf course inside a race track. Turns out the horses don't like golf balls, or at least the owners don't.
The trainers group had been worried about the activity on the golf course and the increased numbers of horses training at the facility. Those fears heightened in October after a trainer was struck by an errant shot.

According to a horse racing board investigation report by Anne Glasscock, trainer Audrey Burch was standing at the west side of the racetrack watching one of her horses when she was struck on the forehead above her left eye by a golf ball. Burch required a trip to the hospital and four stitches to close the cut.

Glasscock's report also noted two other incidents where golf balls were hit into the track area, including one while she was investigating the Burch incident.
Who's idea was this in the first place? Seems crazy. The only other time I've heard of something like this is in Indianapolis, where you can play Brickyard Crossing, located inside the 2 1/2 mile over of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Anyway- I'm sure they'll figure this all out. In the meantime- I'm just enjoying checking out these strange courses on Google Maps.

I've played the one in pleasanton, it pretty much is how it looks small and simple

it's the sort of starter par 3 course that will attract beginners, so I must say I'm not horribly shocked about the incident, there's also an irons only driving range there too
