Wanna Gamble On Sergio?
By Kickntrue on 3/24/09
Golfsmith and TaylorMade are running a sweet promotion. Get a 100% refund on your driver purchase... if Sergio Garcia wins the Masters.
It's worth a shot, right? I mean, the dude is about as due as it gets. Too bad he's playing like butt so far in 2009. Still, if you're going to buy a driver anyway- may be worth going to TaylorMade over something else just for the shot. Nothing like gambling on a longshot.
It almost seems like they should be running it the other way. Like, "See, Sergio won so the driver must be the best," but obviously that would be ridiculous. Either way- I like the idea. I hope more like it pop up in the next months. Someone convince Nike to do the same thing with Tiger at the US Open. He owns Bethpage.

I wonder what Sergio must think about all of this. If he thought about it enough, he might be slightly offended!
"no purchase necessary"
you don't have to actually buy the club, the process is slightly more involved, but you can mail in a form and if he wins, you get a driver for the cost of a stamp
Here is the link to the forms to fill out without purchase:
Will make watching the masters even more interesting...
I am doing the "No purchase necessary" option. Definately having a "Go Sergio" Masters party! I think that it is a total disrespect to him by his own sponsor but maybe he needs a little kick in the ass to win. A free R9 driver would be sweet though. Go Serge!
Agreed. I'm def. sending a "no purchase necessary" form.
All, I wanted to make sure you know the REAL scoop! My wife works for Golfsmith at their corporate headquarters. They had a meeting about this today (and I got a free Taylormade R9 hat out of it). You MUST purchase the driver by close of business Saturday of the Masters. IF Sergio winds, you can take the receipt and claim form back to Golfsmith and they will reimburse you the full pruchase price. IF (more likely) Sergio does not win, you still have the 90/90 option (90 days and return for 90% credit, if not custom). Didn't mean to break anyones bubble but wanted to let you all know the real deal.

charm, how is this different than what everyone has been saying? You are making it sound like this is some big conspiracy. Don't understand your post at all
Jake, I just went to the Golfsmith website and saw the "no purchase" option. Curious - they did not brief the employees about that today.
My post originally was to inform people that they had to purchase the driver PRIOR to the Masters. But now, even I, a Titleist player, am going to do the "no purchase" option. Not a conspiracy at all.
BTW, if you are not familiar with Golfsmiths 90/90 policy, it is the best deal in the industry. You make a purchase of a club or clubs. As long as they are not custom, you can play them for up to 90 days and if not satisfied return them for a 90% refund of the original purchase price in store credit.
SORRY - didn;t mean mislead anyone - I actually emailed the corporate marketing guy.
Jake Bogardus says:
Ya, its a pretty amazing promo. I mean Idk how many people are going to catch this but these are nice 300 dollar state of the art drivers they could be giving away for free. Its not like Sergio is a chump, and its not like Tiger or Phil is a lock. Great promotion, will make that weekend just that much more fun
This has the makings of an "epic" marketing FAIL. Contest/Sweepstakes law is very confusing and often requires things like "no purchase necessary" when in fact Golfsmith does want everyone to purchase. It's no accident that the "NPN" is in green- the same color as the background.
It's an awesome scenario that exists when Golfsmith and TM (though I'm guessing this is mostly Golfsmith) will be PRAYING Sergio doesn't win. Use the man to sell clubs- but God forbid he win.
Golfsmith is actually really rooting for Sergio. They have an insurance policy (much like a hole in one prize) to cover the drivers in case Sergio wins.
Eric Duquene says:
Currently Vegas has the odds on Sergio as 14:1. Tiger at 1.8:1. Mickelson at 6:1.
Singh and Els at 25:1 and Immelman at 60:1.
Who knows tho. Anything can happen.
anyone have the address handy of where to send the NPN forms??
Golfsmith Driver Refund Promotion,
P.O. Box 6168, Dept. 35,
Douglas, AZ 85655-6168
Your No Purchase Submission must be postmarked during the Promotional Period and received by April 30, 2009 to be eligible.
does anyone knows when the Promotional Period begins and ends???
everything just needs to be eaither purchased or sent in by april 11th
I think this promotion was in the same stack as the Dunder Mifflin 50% off entire order golden ticket promotion.
Well, actually Taylormade and Golfsmith are winners regardless of what happens, they are getting plenty of press and I'm sure the additional sales will be more than enough to cover the insurance policy they took out to run the contest. adage.com/article?article_id=135528

Betting on Sergio Garcia to win a major tournament, especially one that requires premier putting ability, is like betting on the Detroit Lions - hopeless.
