Do You Wear A Watch To Golf?
By Kickntrue on 5/15/09
I'm just curious. Do you wear a watch (or any jewelry) to golf? I play with people who wear watches, rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I just don't get how it can be done- especially the bracelets and watches.
I sometimes leave my wedding ring on to play. I'm so used to wearing it that it doesn't bother me that much. Other than that- I have to be accessory free.
I find it interesting that there is a whole category of watches categorized as "Golf Watches." Do you wear these while playing or just while wearing the clothes that make up the style of golf?
Your stories/examples are very welcome.

i see that Philly Mick the stick wears a watch, but he wears it super tight and way above his wrist. almost in the forearm area. i for one cannot wear anything except my wedding ring. my head is WAY to cluttered with last minute swing thoughts to have even one more of "this LIVE STRONG piece of crap is messing with my grip" in there also.
I wear only a pocket watch, also than I'am not on the course. Everything else is in the bag.

I wear a Trion Z left wrist, KIA braclet on right wrist and two necklaces, all 24/7. None of which has ever been a problem. Now if they were in my head...
Stopped wearing a watch with first cell phone, which is never on between First Tee and Nineteenth Hole.
I wear a Callaway tachymeter Golf watch on LH, and heavy silver/gold bracelt on RH. Watch keeps LH straight on takeway and downswing,; bracelt balances out RH and if I can feel it in the hand turnover at impact I know I'm on plane.
I'm actually not much of a jewelry gal. Do earrings count? :)
Yes on a watch, and wedding ring
Nada, zip, zilch, nothing as far as jewelry, that is :)
watch and wedding ring. I used to take the watch off, but I have a titanium Skagen watch. It weighs almost nothing so I can barely feel it most of the time. College class ring comes off though
Watch and wedding ring until the heat rises and the sweat starts to roll.
My wedding ring is the only thing I wear and only if I am wearing my low profile ring. My watch would slide around to much.
Wow, I gotta say that I recently got married and I cant wear my ring when I play. It messes me up. Also I had a watch band snap on me when I was a teenager and since then I have always taken it off.

Wedding band only - no watch or any other accoutrements...
nothing, even take my wallet out
Oh- no way I could have a wallet... I didn't even think about that- because it would bug me so much. Do people play with wallets?
i can't play with a watch... it feels like it is just in the way of my swing. As far was as jewelry goes, i don't wear anything. I just feels in the way
Now the next time I play I'm going to be wondering whether my watch is in the way on every shot. Never bothered me before. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
I don't wear a watch anymore (I stopped when I started playing a lot of golf and getting that ugly "tan" line) and I take my wedding ring off when playing.
I feel like most amateur players don't wear watches because it's distracting. But if you had a multimillion dollar endorsement from Rollex or Tag Heuer, you'd be wearing a watch when you play too. =) Check out more great golf articles at My Golf Spy.

I wear my wedding ring and a watch. I will only wear my watch that has a rubber bracelet. Fits snug and doesnt move around so it doesnt bother me. Metal bracelets on watches tend to rotate and move which can be distracting.
No watch for sure and I get a blister if I wear my wedding ring (because I don't play enough to get a callous).

No watch for me. I don't like the tan line. In fact, I don't wear a watch or any jewelery period. Don't like the feel on my skin.
Yep, my watch is on 100% of the time (even when i sleep), so I don't even think about it when I'm golfing.

I wear my watch, wedding band and another ring on my right hand...doesn't bother me at all.
I hate anything on me, at all times. I dont like watches, I dont like rings, I sure as heck don't like my wallet, etc in my pocket. So playing golf is no exception. I carry absolutely nothing in my pockets, except my ipod touch for keeping score, in my back pocket. It's light enough that I don't even notice it. I should get a case for it that clips to my bag....
Can't play golf with a watch , wallet or jacket on....Come to think about it I can't play without those things on either.
no way, no wallet. i can barely stand the scorecard in my back pocket.
My wedding ring is the only thing that stays on. Come to think of it I never take it off. Watch, wallet, keys, etc all come out of the pockets. The only thing I carry with me is an extra ball, divot repair tool and iGolf Neo GPS.
I also only wear a wedding ring; I didn't used to wear it until I left it on one round recently and I posted a good score (for me). Ever since then I have played with my ring on; I have to admit I am superstitious like that. The only other things I have in my pockets are an extra ball, a pencil & scorecard.
Wedding ring only.
Wedding band only.
Tim Horan says:
Wearing a watch will surely mess with your swingweights. I have been playing with clubs rated a D5-D6 for about six years and this has produced an upright swing plane. I know that if the weight of the watch was attached to the butt end of the club it would increase the swing weight by 3 -4 full points. I always wore a watch until two years ago when I changed my watch for a sports chronometer. There is no way I could play golf with this watch on my wrist.
No watch and no weeding ring. The only thing in my pockets are a divot repair tool w/ball mark and a tee or two. Used to keep a spare ball in tow, because it got used more than not, but now that my fairway hits are improving it hangs out in the cart.
And yes, it is a weeding ring...it weeds out people who are "looking"!
