You Played 36?... Wuss!
By Kickntrue on 6/17/09
I know how tired I am after playing 36 holes in a day, so imagine how Bob Kurtz feels after playing 500. Yes, you read that correctly. Kurtz, and Alabama broadcaster turned pastor raised money for charity by playing as many golf holes as he can be sponsored to play. His most recent golf marathon raised over $40,000 for various charities and took 39 hours to complete.
So how'd he feel when he stepped off that 500th green. "Ticked off!" Kurtz laughs. "I had a six-foot putt for birdie, and I pulled it. But then I remembered what I was there for, I tapped in, and everybody began to applaud."I'm sure this is draining, and much harder than it sounds, but frankly, if you're going to pick a crazy way to raise money, this seems like a good way to do it. It sounds like Kurtz is a pretty good guy- and we certainly wish him the best!
Thanks to Drew1473 for the heads-up on the article!

Wow. That's all I can say. I'm dead tired after 9 (walking)... I've never done 18.
almost 28 rounds in 36 hours? Not at MY course. LOL. This sounds like a charity event I'd like to get involved with.

Okay...Monday morning, starting at 7:30 AM, I was able to complete 36 holes by 12:30 PM. This is at a par 32 9-hole course with virtually no wait time....and I walked. A quick proportion tells me that 500 holes at this course would take me 69 hours. I suppose I could probably do it in 39 hours if I used a cart, but that would completely take the challenge out of it. Seriously....I golf 36 holes, and the only part of me that is tired is my feet.
Sounds like a good time to me. I'd love to be able to get in on something like this. I already know what 2 charities I'd play for. I wonder if there is something that does a "how to" on something like this.
@mjaber... let me think on this. maybe oobgolf can put something together. It sounds like a Golf Addict kind of thing to do. It won't be anytime soon (like in the next month or anything), but I think if we did do somthing for charity, this would be a fun idea.
@Kickntrue. Sounds good to me. When you say "a Golf Addict kind of thing" does that mean you will only make it available to oobgolf addicts?
This past weekend I played about 500 holes of golf on EA Sports Tiger woods 10'.
That almost killed me....could barely raise the beer to my face on Monday.

Taking nothing away from the charity side of Bob's feat...Well done! We did a mid summer "longest day" challenge a couple of years ago. The rules were you had to carry, walk and hole out. Taking 3 clubs and a putter in a pencil bag we managed 96 holes as a three-ball between sunrise and sunset (about 17 hours) on a 6900 yd SSS 73 course. The record that day was 107 holes.
