We're not doing a live blog but I wanted to leave an open thread to comment on the US Open. If you just want to comment or ask a question from those who can see- feel free.

I was just about to post- that watching this... they need to stop playing in this rain.. it's unfair. The horn stopping play just sounded. The 2009 US Open is officially halted.

Played Bethpage Black a couple of years ago. I had a Professor at a local University make the reservation for me since I was coming to teach a class at his school. Well, that can't happen. The person that makes the reservation MUST be the one that claims it. So I was placed at the bottom of the list. I paid my fee and went to starter. He asked me if I was ready - uh, YEAH! I was placed with a couple of other singles and we got off!!! Shot 78 from the back tees (not the Championship tees)!!! I had to buy a carry bag since carts are not allowed on the Black course (had brought my staff bag) - but it was worth it!!! We finished 18 in the dark. Hit my approach to about 6 feet on 18!!! WAY COOL...also played the Red course the next day. Was a good course as well...

It was about 10 years ago but I remember it being a very impressive facility, when paying to play it reminds you of checking into a hotel. We played the red from the tips, which is the second best course after the Black. I shot 84 and was extremely happy.

Going down to the Open tomorrow, looks like us Friday goers are going to be the only ones lucky with the weather. Looking forward to seeing a lot of good golf tomorrow.

Not a great story but... I went to the "Merchandise Tent" last Thursday and saw a few people gathered at the driving range, maybe 10-15 people. I walked over and watched Michael Jordan and Anthony Kim hit balls. It was pretty cool to see Kim blasting fairway woods. Man he can hit for such a small guy.

Jake. If you want to park yourself at one location rather than follow a particular group, the spot in between the 2nd green and 3rd tee is good.
A raised view of the par-4 2nd hole approaches and a great par-3 3rd hole tee shot.

Thanks pblok I'll try that. My plan is to follow Tiger for at least a few holes at some point even though it'll be crazy and then camp out at some holes, maybe 17 and where you just said. Im on a torn ACL so we will see how much I can take before I need to just find a spot for the day

I don't understand why they don't change tee times with the rain. It doesn't make sense that some people would have to play close to 36 today- while people like Tiger aren't scheduled to go off for their 2nd round until Saturday morning. The whole idea is to give morning/afternoon right? Now Tiger's group will have morning/morning and get much more rest than others. Anyone know the rules on this?

mjaber says:
Why didn't they regroup for round 2 as foursomes?

bducharm says:
mjaber - 4'somes play SOOOOO slow - as if US Open rounds weren't slow enough. 4 balls make it even slower...

Kickntrue says:
Of course this will change.. but as of 10:10am on Friday... only 2 players under par are amateurs. Have to love an Open.

Its fun to see how the talent shines early, then they slowly fall off the leaderboard as the headstrong and the grinders sneak their way to the top on the weekend.

mjaber says:
Who would have the advantage going into Sunday? Let's say for arguments sake that Phil and Tiger are in the lead going into round 3, and that Phil finished his 2nd round today. Phil would have played 36 today, and would start round 3 late tomorrow. Tiger would have played a full 18 tomorrow, and then back to start in the final grouping for round 3. I think those that are starting round 1 today may have an advantage, especially if they can get all 36 in today.

Dale Alsandor says:
My thoughts on this years US Open are: third round will be a huge factor for who will eventually triumph, Shot making ability will determine the winner... this course will demand all of the shots...

Kickntrue says:
There is no doubt from watching so far.. the guys playing right now are having a much easier go of it. The fact that they get to turn around and try to get as many more in today as they can before darkness only helps them more.

mjaber says:
Looks like Tiger may have to be thinking about just making the cut tomorrow. With the +10 rule for the open, he's right on the cut line with Weir at -6 at the moment. Harrington may be in big touble... what's wrong with him lately?

mbills1015 says:
You have to look at the field tightening up all around moving towards Sunday --- the guys at +4 moving up towards even and the guys like Weir at or near -6 coming back to even

I can't believe we are looking at an hour and half between the end of 2nd round and start of 3rd on Sat. They should be starting right away?
