That's One Way To Play Through
By Kickntrue on 6/25/09
Slow play sucks. That's why 73 year old Edwin Dailey brought a gun to the course with him.
The affidavit said Dailey complained that they were playing too slowly and had parked their golf cart inappropriately.Hmmph... even with hallow-tips, those guys should've attacked. A .25 cal, the dude would've been better off with BB's. Now he gets jail.
While his method was a bit unorthodox, I'll give the crazy old dude this- it was effective.

"The three men took cover behind cars, fearing for their lives, the affidavit said." - Hilarious... Well, i'll bet he now has the course record for "Most Players held at gunpoint during one round"

well done Edwin, today I had the slowest foursome in front of me and about a month ago, I played through three groups........in NINE HOLES!!
Why not do what everyone else does and hit into them?
That's one way to "SHOOT" a good score!
Golf is a game for "Considerate, Patient, Gentlemen", not for "Fools" like this. Had this "Dude" drawn down on me, he would not have lived to go to jail!! Read the Book "In The Gravest Extreme" by Masaad Aaoob and develop an understanding of how I handle matters such as this. This is an eaxmple of why I am selective where I play golf and who I play with. JWHpurist
Yeah thats my town!! This has been all over the radio and news today. It happened at a course that is leasing the land from the University of Texas and they have just recieved a business proposal saying they should tear up the course and build condos and hotels. Its a pretty hot debate right now and this doesn't make it any better.
As frustrating as slow play is, no one should be killed over a game. You hear that LA and Detroit?
My Mom used to carry a .25 automatic in her purse. My grandpa always told her that if she ever had to use it, she better empty the whole clip into his gut and run like hell because it would probably only piss him off.
blake_p - I am in Austin as well. Sad story really. I know people will make fun of the situation and since nothing tragic happened, we can joke about it. If Dailey would have actually pulled the trigger it would not have been funny. More to the story - Nader, the alleged slow player, had committed to playing football at the University of Texas but actually collapsed on the field during his senior year in high school. His Father a doctor, was in attendance and saved his life! Texas honored the scholarship they offered Nader.

I have to say that you guys are all barking mad over there. There is no justification to having the "right to bear arms". Where is the common decency and self control? Nutters!
Tim, having lived in England for a number of years I understand why you could think that. I also find it quite cheeky that you comment on the need for having self control and decency and then call gun owners, including myself, mad and crazy, when you have never met us and obviously do not understand the intent of the right.
I think you're all nuts. We have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves and our country. What we don't have is the right to use the weapon as an intimidation device because people didn't do things the way we believe they should. Lock the lunatic up.
An armed society is a polite society
Tim, you are entitled to your opinion, but it is without sound justification!! You insult responsible firearms owners and users with that statement! I happen to be "Patron Life Member" of the NRA, "Lifetime Grand Master" in all shooting disciplines, and have a CCW, but never carry a gun when I play golf. I have had sufficient training to handle a situation as described in a responsible manner. I could have taken this "Dirtbag" down "hands only" or "stick fighting" with a putter. You learn a lot when you have been to "NAM" and lived to talk about it!! Golf is as pleasant as a player makes it!! Lets do it that way!! JWHpurist

I used to carry bottle rockets for slow groups ahead of me.
Tim Horan says:
We are all capable of acting irrationally and in certain circumstances take things a little too far. If the guns and knives were just for sport or for hunting they would not be to hand and therefore not an everyday threat. It doesn't matter that you may be a LGM or the most level headed person, under stress or threat given the wrong stimulae you are a danger if you have easy access to weapons.
