PGA Tour Will Follow Groove Rules
By Kickntrue on 7/1/09
Tour Commish Tim Finchem said yesterday that the PGA Tour will follow the new USGA mandates on groove rules next season. This is actually a pretty big deal, because until the PGA Tour agreed to go along with it, it was strictly a USGA rule, PLUS the USGA had admitted that if the PGA Tour didn't go along with it, they probably wouldn't enforce their own rule, even for USGA events like the US Open.
This is still far from over- and let's stress again, most of us don't need to worry about this for at least 15 years, until 2024. By then, I'm sure we will know if this was good/bad/ugly and the whole thing will be revised to suit the best needs of everyone involved. I mean... we're talking about the USGA here. It's in their best interest to make the proper decisions that govern golf for pros and amateurs alike and bring more and more people to the game we love, right? ... Right?
Feeling (Less) Groovy!
