Do You Name Your Big Stick?
By Kickntrue on 8/7/09
A couple comments in a post from yesterday raised an interesting question of naming your sticks. While most men have probably tried to name their big stick, I'm wondering how many have tried to name their drivers (ha!). I'm guessing it's pretty common to name your putter too- but I must admit this is one area I'm pretty clueless.
I've never named any of my clubs and I really don't know anyone who does, though they may name them and just be afraid to use their pet names in public. Frankly, reading the names others had for their clubs made me a little jealous. Clearly my #1 (and others) need names.
Tell me what you call your babies and if you have some suggestions for me- that's great too!

I thought of one on my own... "Roger" because on each tee box, it's "Ready to launch. Roger. Over and Out"
I call my Driver Beatrice because she like an old pro, old, cheap but ready for action.
My TaylorMade burner driver is called "After burner". Most of the time though, he's known as "Burnout". The fairway woods (King Cobra) are called "Cobra Commander" (3-wood) and "Viper" (5-wood). Putter is known as O'Mally (Odyssey Putter - mallet shaped).
Luckily for putters, Yes Golf takes care of this. I don't name any other clubs, but my putter says Tracy right on it, who am i to change her name?
i call it the waffle, it never knows what it wants to do... hook, cut, slice, str8... or piece of_____ fill in the blank!
My Nike Sumo 5900 is named "The Punisher". I even made a custom headcover for it that has a Punisher Skull patch. The name fits pretty well, either i'm the one getting punished, or the ones I play against are getting punished as I outdrive them.
My driver is named "Get Some" because it's what I say when I outdrive my foursome.
I call my Big Stick the "Heat Seeking Moisture Missle"
My driver's name is "Big Dog." When I am playing well, I pull it from my bag and say, "Let the Big Dog eat."
I call my driver the "Demon Driver," because instead of leaving it in my bag like I should I pull it out to ruin whatever round I am playing. What an awful instrument.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my driver. Its called "the Octagon," but I also nick named my 5W and Hybrid- my 5W is James Westfall and my Hybrid is Dr. Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right you just might get to meet the whole gang.
@m2d - i knew someone would go there... funny- i would've put money on it to be you!
My Driver is SWOOP. I'm an Eagles fan with an Eagles headcover.
My putter is simply BABY.
I had named my 3-wood but I can't type it in mixed company.
Patrick McKay says:
My driver is named "piece of crap" and "idiot" along with a bunch of other things
I'm with P-Gunna on this one.
Does it help to name them maybe thats where I am going wrong?
Kickntrue, sorry, I misunderstood the question.
I call my Driver the Destroyer when it goes long and straight. When it dosen't there are a few choice words that I'm sure everybody uses from time to time.
"Elmers" - cause sometimes it sticks to the fairway like glue, but I usually end up with it all over the place.
I call mine by wifeGÇÖs name because she never listens and I never do anything right.
The driver is Old Smokey, complete with a Tennessee mascot head cover (Smokey the hound). The putter is "Sammy", named by my daughter.
The Full Monty says:
Back in 2008, I called my 5 wood "Old Faithful" (self explanatory). She made up for a lot of days where the driver wouldn't work.
However, I bought a new driver this year and "Old Faithful" has become Old & Dusty.
