Terrible Golf Course Websites
By Kickntrue on 8/7/09
It's amazing to me in this day and age that some golf courses till don't have websites. What's even worse- is that some do.
I'm in a unique position where I see A LOT of golf course websites. Between Kevin and myself we easily see 200+ course websites a week while keeping our golf course database as organized as possible. Sometimes we come across some so bad we just send them to each other to laugh at. I wish I would've been keeping a directory- because, well, this post could really rock, but I think what I'm about to share with you is well worth your Friday's time. Kevin is off camping with his sons this weekend- so he wasn't around to share it with.
Please make sure to have the sound ON or it won't be nearly as entertaining. Feel free to post any links to other terrible sites you may know. One big factor for me in an awesomely bad sad as to be the scrolling marquee. It's an assured A+.
Anyway... without further ado...
Hi Line Golf Course (SOUND MUST BE ON)

Hilarious.....thinking about joining
I would love to play this one! www.botswanagolfunion.org.bw/Documents/f%20golf%
Thats what you get when you use Front Page - yuk!
Note to everyone: to really get the full effect you must view the page in Internet Explorer. Firefox will deprive you of all the fantastic tunes this page has to offer. I could not take it any more after the mission impossible tune on the score page...... It certainly felt like a trip back to 1996...... Thank you!

Okay...I sent the dude an email telling him he HAS to lose the music. I mean...come on. At least you could use a related theme. Listening to Paradise by the Dashboard Lights while reading about clubhouse damage is a little ridiculous. And Eye of the Tiger?
Okay...on a more serious note....I wish people would realize how important this is. I like to travel to try different courses, and I like to try different courses while I travel. A good website will get me to visit your course...a poor website will keep me away.

That Botswana course is rather goofy too. They are moving in 2010? Their biggest goal is to have a fully grass course? The thing that confuses me the most, though, is that they claim to have a 9-hole course....yet have a picture of the 10th hole???
The Botswana course is one thing.. it's BOTSWANA. The other- no excuse. My only question though to @bjohn13- WHY WOULD YOU EMAIL AND RUIN IT??!!?!

lol...I had to. I was soooo embarassed browsing that site. I mean...it SCREAMS "do not golf here!!!!!" Seriously...if I was making a trip to Nebraska and considering that course, the web site would turn me away in a hurry.
I had a beer and sang that song with my dad, after that we listened to the MIDI Billy Joel - Piano Man... gotta give them credit tho! You know i think the site needs the Top Gun theme, that would make it badass!
Cool, I'm making a CD of that, to play in my car.
As an MU graduate, I wasn't shocked to see this course is located in Nebraska. The version of Aerosmith's "Dream On" found on the league news page could be used to replace waterboarding.
Unfortunately, not a single oober has actually posted a score or a review of this course. Maybe I should make the 6 hour drive from KC and check it out.
one of those tunes was a 90's french rap song called "l'ecole du micro argent" by the group IAM. first time i've heard it since my year abroad in france!
This is my local course, I can't really say the site is as worthy as some of the others posted so far but it's certainly up there: www.lmra.org/golf.html

At least Squaw Creek has a scorecord and some hole descriptions....and some humor. It also looks like the course is pretty nice with reasonable green fees. An annual memebership looks extremely reasonable with free 15 minute golf lessons on Sunday....If I was in the area, that website would definitely get me to visit.
Now the Field's Ferry website IS pretty lame. Yeah....they have a scorecard...but that's about all.
In case no one has noticed, I really dig this topic.
Field's Ferry is bad... especially if it's really a Golf Digest 4 star winner. A course good enough to be a list like that should do a bit better.
Call me crazy,, I like it. The site is straight to the point, the music fits exactly the feel of the site, as matter of fact I have it playing in the background as I'm typing this, the site loads quickly and has most of the information needed on the home page. It doesn't have the graphics and contemporary feel that we have become accustom to, but I don' think that a website for a golf course needs to have all the bells and whistles. The only problem I have is it doesn't have the scorecard. I make websites for a living, www.hilinegolf.com "technically" is a very good site. Well done!!
Their website isn't that great but I like the way they cater to the golfing family with Jr golfer activities and couples night. I learned to play golf on a 9 hole course like this. I didn't know until I was older that my golf course was any different than the country clubs of the elite golf snobs in the city.
roflmao... oobgolf (living in a glass house) shouldn't throw stones...
Try this one - no entertaining audio, but bad just the same - www.beaconhillsgolf.com.au/
Course not too far from me has "course photos" like so many others. And we all know courses who show you beautiful fairways when in truth, they are burned out by mid-summer. But this is the best part about Twin Brooks - if this is what they show you, what are they hiding ;)

kickntrue, THANKS so much for posting this utterly dreadful site. SO many things are wrong there...
I'll stick to just one of the dozens of problems there: Dark red text against a green background???!! ( www.hilinegolf.com/tournament%20canlendar.htm) Ex-squeeze me?! Baking powder??!!
To borrow a phrase from Pittsburgh Penguins announcer Mike Lange, when I look at this web site, I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or wind my watch.
Torleif Sorenson says:
And since I'm a professional technical writer and web developer, God would demand that I do more than just talk about it, so I've offered my expertise to Gene in exchange for getting to play the course the next time I'm in nearby Kearney, Nebraska.
Kickntrue, if he likes it and posts my reconstructed site, you'll have to hold a new "ugly web site" competition.
Its not only golf clubs that have bad sites. check my local estate agents domain www.pearsonandpearson.co.uk/ Anyways... My name is Graham I own my own web design company in the beautiful lake district UK. www.sck-webworks.co.uk Not only that but i am a dedicated golfer and my best friend owns a golf course. If you want a decent professional golf related website give me a shout, i know what i am on about. will cost between -ú1200 - -ú2500 +44 (0)1539722712.
jross, that twinbrook thing was a hoot. They must've used pictures from insurance claims from local teen damage! Six guys on a green too? Classic.... dread.
