Goodbye Venezuelan oobers
By Kickntrue on 8/12/09
Just as we were gaining tracking with Venezuelan golfer, President Hugo Chavez had to go and ban golf. In an address to his people,
"Let's leave this clear," Mr. Ch+ívez said during a live broadcast of his Sunday television program. "Golf is a bourgeois sport," he said, repeating the word "bourgeois" as if he were swallowing castor oil. Then he went on, mocking the use of golf carts as a practice illustrating the sport's laziness. It is also reported that Chavez is closing golf courses to build low income housing over- because he doesn't like the courses in his country.
I wonder who he lost a skins game to? Maybe he's finally come to the same realization as our own M2D (Don't quit man! Me love you! [If you get everything in parenthesis here- you're REALLY an oober.]) that he'll never get better.
This is sad for a lot of reasons, but for me personally because I've been to Venezuela. It's always had a special place in my heart because one of my favorite athletes of all time came from Caracas (Andres Galarraga). I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks there back when I was 17, helping to build a school. I was hoping to go back someday, but now I'm not sure I'll have a reason to. I have a pretty hard rule about traveling with the sticks- and I don't drag them around for the looks I get in the airport.
In oob's 3 years - we've had 1429 site visits from Venezuela and now Hugo won't let them play. Sure- we get that kind of traffic in a couple hours daily, but we'll still miss them. So long amigos.

argh....just a tad irritated with the comments below that article....
@kvsmith59- It's Gawker... their whole point is to get people to spend all day being A-Holes in the comments.
@KVSmith, I agree, those people are morons. I left a comment myself, I'm sure I'll get attacked pretty good for it too!
In 1999, before ever playing golf, I went to Venezula to fish for Peacock Bass, so I didn't see any of their courses. But it was one of the best trips ever though, I flew the jet over the brink of Angel Falls, tallest vertical drop waterfall in the world, 3000', and followed the river out of the canyon. You should see the video.
Its a good thing that Obama likes golf or he might think of doing the same thing. Chavez is a dictator and should be dealt with just like any other dictator. Rise venezuela and free yourself.
I have no words.
Given our present border control, the golfers from Venezuela will be here shortly.
Another example of "The Ignorant Red Menace" at work! It all right because other intelligient governments of this World appreciate the "Game" and allow it to flourish in their societies and the Game grows in stature! JWHpurist
Well thats another country I've crossed off my list.
He will change his mind when it becomes an Olympic Sport.
@Author: Venezuelans cannot access oobgolf anymore? I was not aware that Venezuela had Internet Censorship? Please do not participate in unsound FUD.
