Collecting Golf Memorabilia
By Kickntrue on 8/25/09
I'm interested if anyone has any good stories or wants to brag about their golf collectibles. I wish I would've started collecting scorecards back when I started playing 14 years ago. I guess I could still start now and end up with a pretty nice collection but it feels like it'd always be incomplete. I was in an office last week- that was somewhat golf themed and we talked about how sweet it would be to do a room wallpapered in scorecards.

I'm guessing some people may collect balls from a course too, and maybe ball markers...?

I'm also curious about collecting old equipment or a specific special item relating to golf. If you have a good story- let's hear it!

I buy a ball from the nice courses (>$100) I play.

My wife and I hadn't picked up golf yet on our honeymoon in Hawaii, in 2005. Earlier this year we were playing a course in Jamaica and found a logo ball from the resort we stayed at on our honeymoon. I cleaned it up, and added it to my collection.

I've seen old golf clubs at antique stores and such, nice to pick up and such to look at, but dont think I want them sitting around the house. I was given a set of golf clubs from yesteryear, a forged set, and the difference in technology is so great, I'd never even bother with it on the course. The head of the driver is smaller then the head on my 5 wood today. I am going to give them to good will or something. I would be interested to see them at the USGA mueseum.
I do collect the odd logo ball though of places and courses I've been too. Everyone has to collect something I guess, for me, I keep it small and when I dont want it anymore, I'll tee it up.

Scorecards and pencils are all I collect from the courses I play. Only played 4 so far so it's a fairly poor collection.

I'm like activesense; I've only collected scorecards and pencils to this point. Seems like a pretty lousy collection though as I've only been to a handful of different courses.

Oh yeah, I did find an Elks Run logo ball out on the course last year; I've kept it (I wish it was in mint condition though).

I'd like to collect more but I'm apprehensive about spending money on balls, towels, etc. from courses after paying my greens and cart fees.

I've been collecting ball markers. I haven't found a decent course that doesn't have branded ones, they are fairly cheap and a collection doesn't take much space.

i buy a golf ball from every course i play and put my best score on it and then put it in my display case. i also keep a copy of any special golf balls i have made (with pictures or designs i create). when i beat my old score i buy a new ball and then throw the old one in a big box of balls i have.

I love reading the comments, still log on every day, but have accomplished a lot of stuff around the house since giving up golf. Got my 64 Fairlane running and took it to a car show last weekend.. Building a 427 for my 69 Mustang now.. Don't miss golf at all, kind of like a big burden lifted off my shoulders. I sucked as a golfer.

@M2D- I just hope I can someday suck as good as you. But congrats on getting some other stuff done.

I've kept as many scorecards as I possibly could. Used to collect logo balls, but got too many so we weeded them out to the cool and recognizable ones. Also got my first birdie, eagle, and '69' balls.
I like Mr. Black's idea of writing the best score on a ball from each course. But I'm cheap, try to play as many different courses as I can, and typically only once.

I get a logo ball when I play a course for the first time and a yardage book if they have one. I made myself a 24 ball case and only have seven so far. I got to get out and play some new ones!

I collect anything vintage golf including golf course signs. My office looks like a museum. Still looking for an old Par Aide ball washer. Makes me happy at work.

I just keep my score cards. I'll probably put them up in my office, or my garage, once I've found a house. I have every single one. They're a bit scattered at the moment. Some are in storgae, some in my desk at work, and some in my bedroom, but they are all still in my possession.

I do collect shot glasses from airports I've been in. I don't drink hard liquor anymore, but I've got probably 40-50 shot glasses. Some interesting ones, too. I've got one in the shape of a tiki idol from Jamaica.

My 2 most prized golf possessions involve Arnold Palmer - The King!!! I played in a tournament at Latrobe CC a few years ago. Arnold had autographed hats for all the participants, so I have that stashed away (never worn). I also have an autographed photo of the 18th hole at Latrobe for winning the tournament. It is framed and up in my home office. I also quite a few hats signed by many PGA Tour pros when they played in Texas Open.

I also have a set of 1968 Wilson Staff irons which I had rechromed. I bought them from a guy for $85 - put about $200 into new grips, shafts, and rechroming. VERY cool looking...

Logo balls. One rack for in-state(michigan) & one rack for out of state courses. So far 76 in state & 55 out of state. I just wish the season was longer here as there are over 800 courses in the state alone.

I collect bag tags that are not made of plastic, and hang them from my bag. The Duke in Arizona has the coolest one i've seen yet. It's a spur that actually works.
