Gambling On The Golf Course
By Kickntrue on 9/2/09
What is the most you've ever won or lost on a shot or round of golf? Also fun would be stories of great shots to win big pots- and of course easy shots you've choked to lose the money.

The most I've ever won would be $200.00, but the most I've ever actually been paid would be $50.00. My gambling buddies are very good at making bets, paying them off is another story. The most I've ever lost is about $50.00 too, but I always pay out. I also don't gamble money I can't afford to lose. I usually just make them pay for my rounds until we get even again. It keeps me playing, and keeps the pressure on them.
I usually stick to something like .25 or .50 skins-- real wuss stuff. of course we play so much we give away skins like candy. still- tough to lose much money with those stakes.
Usually we play for a few bucks a hole. Once when a buddy of mine and I didn't have the time for a full round we played a par 3 course. Not really a pitch and put, it had legit par 3 holes. At the time neither of us were that good, barely breaking 95. We were tied going into the last hole. It was about 120 and the pin was tucked behind a mound in front of the green. I put mine to about 2ft past the hole, which you could see from the tee. My buddy hits his real close too, right in front of the hole, where we couldn't see. We get up there and it turns out the bastard dunked his tee shot for the win after I put mine to 2ft!
Edit to that last post, I meant we barely could break 95 on a full course, not the par 3!!!
@sigmapete1- uh-huh, sure... wahtever you say!! HAH!
@sigmapete1 Dude that sucks!!!!!!!
I'm with Kickntrue, quarter a hole skins.
@White tiger, yeah he never lets me forget that but I never let him forget that it wasn't a "real" course!
The group I play with plays $0.50 skins, $1 greennies on par 3s (have to been on the green and make par or better) and $2.50 for low putts, I gave up almost $20 last weekend which is the most anyone has ever given up. One time I walked on with a threesome and one gent asked how I play and told the other two I would partner with him for the "regular bet" and I didn't find out until after the round they play for $100 skins plus other side bets totaling about $2000 in bets for the round. Very glad I didn't know that beforehand! I shake over the par putt when I have a chance to collect all the greennies on the last par 3!
$25 bucks and a shot of Bourbon
We usually bet $20.00 a guy and a case of beer per guy. It almost always comes down to the last hole in which we usually do a double or nothing bet. Actually won $100 yesterday which was a bet spread over low gross on 2 courses at a resort in West Virginia
We play a $1 bet hole every round. In the rare case that the bet hole turns out to be #1 (Determined by iPhone App Dice Shaker 1d20), we do a second roll of the dice to get a later hole. Not too exciting, but it doesn't cause anyone to get pissed due to an extravagant amount.
Tim Horan says:
The most I ever played for was a contract. The client and I played for the tendered contract amount of -ú140,000(give or take loose change); If I won he would place the order with me if I lost he would negotiate it with the lowest tenderer. Not very ethical and I am not naming anyone...no never. Unlike the client I am still in construction.
