Samsung's Amazing Finish
By Kickntrue on 9/21/09
Not that anyone was watching... but the LPGA's season-ending Championship had a pretty crazy finish. Na Yeon Choi had a 7 stroke lead with 12 holes to play on Sunday at the Samsung World Championship. What happened next would even make Greg Norman and Jean Van De Velde cringe. Choi lost her lead... all of it, and then with a stroke of genius on 18 hit her approach to five feet to knock in a birdie and win her first LPGA event. She picked a good one to do it on winning $250k. Despite what may be a reality of shrinking purses and a shaky economy- it's not a bad week's work, if you can get it.
On that note- in the LPGA specifically, where the economy does seem to be of particular concern- 2009 produced 7 millionaires (just from tournament winnings, not sponsorships) and 79 women made over $100k. Like I said... not terrible work if you can get it.

As I wrote elsewhere on oobGolf, I wonder how many gray hairs she now has as a result of her near-Van De Velde on Sunday? I think if she hadn't sunk that putt, *I* would have been sick.
Talk about unfair; talented people like Choi, Miyazato, Ochoa and Creamer are relative unknowns, while morons like Kanye West make headlines. Congrats to Choi for succeeding under intense pressure where most other people would've cracked up.
