Perfect Wie-kend For Golf... Nike
By Kickntrue on 11/16/09
Tiger won in Australia and Michelle Wie won her first event as a pro, in Mexico. Meanwhile in the USA, the PGA Tour wrapped up its season in Disney where Stephen Ames shot a final round 64 to come roaring back to force a playoff, which he won. Add a little money list and Q-School drama, and golf was actually pretty exciting.
All three winners are in the Nike Golf stable. Swoosh.
Too bad the combined tv ratings of these golf events won't even come close to 1/2 of Cowboys vs Packers game?
I think the biggest story of the weekend has to be Wie winning. I'm really glad for her- and at only 20, she's actually the same age as Tiger was when he won his first professional event. Of course- she's teed it up in over 60 career events while he had only played in 20 or so.
Still- the LPGA has to be pumped and we should to. It doesn't cancel all of the overhyped talk and some of the frustration with her receiving perceived benefits without performance, but it certainly adds some legitimacy to her talent and future in the sport. You hear a lot of golfers talk about learning to win, and you see a lot of players start to rip off a streak of wins once they get the first one under their belt. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wie dominate in 2010. Here's to hoping she does- the LPGA could REALLY use it.

i feel like i've been telling people "just you wait and see" for years now about Michelle Wie. she has always been a very good player. hell, she missed the cut by one shot at a PGA tour event...WHEN SHE WAS 14! besides her wrist holding her back in 07 (just look at Luke Donald at what a wrist injury can do), she only missed out on winning majors by a few shots. the hype was there because she's that good and is only going to get better after this. the next 5 people on the leaderboard that she just beat...Paula Creamer, Kristie Kerr, Morgan Pressel, Jiyai Shin and Lorena Ochoa. the top 5 players of the game right now. this is a major confidence boost for her and i can't wait to watch women's golf in 2010.
cant believe you didnt say "Perfect Wie-kend for Golf...Nike"
that one's free, next one is gonna cost you a skycaddie.
@banker- can't believe i just went for that. enjoy.
HUGE congrats to Michelle for this win. Like Hackman, I've been waiting for it to happen. MW is a VERY talented young lady who will only get better with experience. 2010 is going to be very interesting for the LPGA.
