At least Burj Al Arab is finished.
Race To Dubai Finish
By Kickntrue on 11/18/09
For all of the talk about the FedExCup here in the USA, the European Tour's Race To Dubai finale is still very much in doubt, with some big names in the hunt. Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Ross Fisher all have a shot at winning, the PGA Tour equivalent of a Tiger, Phil, Stricker, Zach Johnson showdown.
Wait a minute... the European Tour figured out a way to have a season long points race where the best four golfers all season long had a chance to win in the end? Wild!
Despite the great golf finish, much of the story revolves around the course in Dubai. When the Race was announced well over a year ago, featuring a $10M purse and a brand new fantastic course, things were going a bit better in Dubai. Due to the economy downturn (more like a freefall in Dubai) the purse has been cut and the course is unfinished. What was supposed to be a grand stage is actually a carved out green paradise in between a full on construction zone.
Still- not all is bad. Golfweek's Alistair Tait is loving the treatment of golf media over there. He's living it up!
