Happy Gilmore Swing Ruled Illegal
By Kickntrue on 11/25/09
Screw you Nova Scotia! How can one of your judges rule the Happy Gilmore Swing to be illegal? Not cool.
A Canadian judge has ruled the “Happy Gilmore” golf swing has “breached the standard of care owed to other players on the course.”What the heck qualifies a judge to make a ruling on a golf swing? There is more to this case obviously, but it actually makes the ruling MORE ridiculous. This was the outcome to an outing gone bad that included,
28 cans of beer, a bottle of tequila, and "some marijuana."So basically, these guys are lit up- do the Happy Gilmore swing and then hit someone else on the course. The court's answer... ban the swing?!
Plus, didn't Padraig Harrington prove that it's actually a better way to swing? (If you haven't seen this video- check it out!)
And to think... I always talked about moving to Canada. I know we have to have one oober up in Nova Scotia. Could you PLEASE go video tape yourself doing the Happy Gilmore swing and send it to me to post on oob? We have to stand up and fight this!
Turn it up... and let the Holiday weekend come to you!

"the price is wrong... b*tch!" Sounds like those guys had a fun day!
Yeah, it had to be that crazy swing that caused the problem, aye, not the "28 cans of beer, a bottle of tequila, and "some marijuana.", aye. Maybe they should sue Adam Sandler, aye, it's all his fault. aye
Bryan K says:
Um...seriously? There should be something in the USGA rules as well as all course rules that prevent the Happy Gillmore swing.
Seriously...I've seen numerous people try it. I've seen no one successfully hit it that way. I've seen several errant shots as a result. I've seen several extremely errant shots, some quite dangerous. And most of the people trying were quite sober.
So...in other words...I can't say I agree.
Off-Course Golf Rob says:
The reason you've not seen successful Gilmores is because those guys don't practice. Doesn't Dave Pelz say that practice is everything.
@bjohn13- watch the clip of Padraig Harrington linked above. With practice- the power stats actually show it's a good shot to have when you need some extra yardage.
Sounds like that cart girl is making a ton of money.
Wow...during a horrendous round of golf a few months ago and missing maybe all but 1 fairway I did the Happy Gilmore swing on the last 2 holes and hit both fairways. Best drives of the day, long and straight. I call shenanigans on that ruling.
What course do the cart girls sell pot? And how much for 18 with a cart and some munchies?
Tim Horan says:
Presumably the guys were all friends...what in hell were they suing each other over? If you're off your head bladdered and high, accept the fact that you could get hurt... as far as I can see there were no innocent parties here! As for the judge's ruling...lesser things have been outlawed and far greater evils still legal.
what you didn't get into was the fact that it was his bachelor party and that he hit his own groomsman and HE is the one that sued him for almost $300k.
some friend....MAN UP CANADA!
I will have to refer back to a female comic I heard on a recent trip, "Canada is like an attic for the US, you forget it is up there at time, but when you do go up there, you may find something nice or something you would rather forget about" I choose to file this in the would rather forget about part. Why not sue the sporting goods store for selling weapons to a moron, better yet sue the guys parents for raising a moron, or even better sue yourself for accepting the position of groomsman to such a complete tool.
