How Do You Exercise?

Outside of golf, do you exercise? If so, what do you do? Holiday eating, faux-New Year's motivation, a chill in the air that makes golf out of the question...

All of these things lead to the big E. My offseason workout consists of situps (up in the morning, down at night), some weighlifting (remote curls), and running (to the store to get more beer).

I'm sure some of you out there have it a bit more figured out than me- so what's the secret? Serious comments are very welcome.

This offseason I'm going to make it a priority to build up core strength. I have a 12 lb medicine ball to help facilitate this. Year-round workouts include many pushups, chair/table dips, and some curls and triceps thingies with a 25 lb barbell. None of these workouts are great for building muscle but these (along with daily dog walking) keep me pretty tone.

Tiger Woods 2010 on the Wii :) I plan on picking up P90X again for the winter. I did it last winter and I was really happy with the core strength and over all feeling I got from the workout. I need to get my lower back and core in better shape. Keeping my spine angle straight takes work!

The winters are long and cold here in Minnesota, so we need something to keep us out from hibernating. I've spoken to a few althetic trainers that are golfers as well, and they concur with 'kjn122' in working the core and back (lower and upper) and he's right, lot of it can be done right at home. One thing they sress is to 'Just Start Somewhere.' It doesn't matter if you can only do '5 of something' eventually it will get better.

I also purchased a hitting net as well, and set it up in one of the rooms in my lower level to continue to work on swing muscle-memory. I try and hit a few times a week.

I work out at least 2 mornings a week (total body weight lifting routine) and I always walk when I play.

i walk when i play and in VA the weather is decent enough to play all year
i workout all year, but more in the winter. i do weightlifting and cardio 3-4 times a week.

P90x is bad ass, prob mess up your golf game for the first 30 days.

I'm using a Total Gym (courtesy of my MIL). General circuit training program with 1 or 2 golf related exercises thrown in.

I plan to do P90X again. I had great results when I did it last winter. Lost over 30 lbs etc. Too bad I messed up my shoulder playing volleyball and let all non golf excercise slip away, so I fell apart. I noticed that my golf game seemed a bit erractic as I started to regain weight.
