Golf Isn't Fun For Tiger
By Kickntrue on 1/25/10
ESPN.com's Jason Sobel has a theory on Tiger Woods; he doesn't like golf anymore. It's a very speculative article- but it's interesting. Here are the highlights:
From temper tantrums after sprayed tee shots to profanity-laced tirades based on shifting wind directions, from faraway stares as awestruck fans chanted his name to a general look of utter disdain while playing the game, the No. 1-ranked player helped formulate my idea from inside the ropes. Finally, I understood what was eating at the man, why he looked so miserable while he so often dominated.I'll buy at least most of it. I don't know how you could do what Tiger has done and not get burnt out. While players like Jack Nicklaus had their share of crazy fans they didn't have to do deal with 24 hour sports news coverage and tabloid photographers out for blood. This isn't me making excuses for Tiger, but I don't envy what he's had to deal with. Tiger doesn't really "play golf" but instead hits golf balls and wins tournaments during a circus. I think I'd be a bit burned out too.

that is sad. Say it ain't so Tiger, say it ain't so!
Hard to say without really knowing the guy. I know our sports writers have to do something with their time... but speculating as to whether Tiger likes to play golf anymore. I think thats just sad.
Well Put... but so not TRUE....
Bryan K says:
I'll speculate a bit more and say that Tiger probably hasn't enjoyed the game of golf for a long time. It's a job to him, and as with most people, he takes pride in a job well done. But as far as actually enjoying the game? I highly doubt it.
I don't know if Tiger enjoys the game or not but I think he loves the competition, and that's what keeps him on top. He'll be be back, just to beat the others down again.
Well, he never seems to be having any fun, it's just grind out anouther win.
"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious." Vince Lombardi
I don't know if he enjoys the media spotlight, the grind of practicing, the endless barrage of autograph requests and idiot questions from reporters, but he looked pretty damn happy to hole that putt on 18 at Torrey Pines.
WHy should he enjoy it? It's his job. If you enjoy your job, who do they have to pay you to do it?
Maybe.... but I would think his tirades and such are more a result of living a life with so many secrets and stress of keeping them quite.
