After a couple weeks of Europeans dominating the PGA Tour it was nice to see a couple young Americans picking up their games. Hunter Mahan shot a -6, 65, yesterday to close out the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He was one shot better than young American (future star, and great dresser) Rickie Fowler.

I didn't watch the whole event, but I saw enough to know this; everything people are saying about Fowler is true, and maybe more. He hit the ball better than anyone, but putted rather lousy. There aren't many player on Tour who can win without their A game, but I bet if you ask Rickie for a true assessment of his game over the weekend he'd put it somewhere around a B or B-, and he was still the 2nd best golfer of the weekend. Remind you of anyone else? I'm not saying he's "the next," but I do think American golf is is good shape and we should be pretty excited about the future generation of golf we're set to see with Fowler joining the likes of Ryo Ishikawa, Rory McIlroy and others.

Of course- we shouldn't overlook Hunter Mahan, who is also still a pretty young guy. He's proving himself a pretty sharp player capable of winning on a yearly basis.

On Golf Channel on Saturday they said the 16th hole makes $6M a year. It's a wonder they don't figure out how to do that with 1 hole every tournament.

It's going to be interesting to see how far Rickie Fowler can go in the next year. It bothers me a lot that Fowler and McIIroy dress the way I did when I was their age. You know you're getting old when the styles of your youth go out and then come back.

GREAT win for Hunter!!! And Rickie WILL win this year - no doubt!!! The kid has a TON of talent!!! Anthony Kim started great and faded but he is another 20-something that continues to step up. I heard an announcer say the US has no chance at the Ryder Cup this year - we'll see!!!

I need to get the Golf Channel so I can actually comment on the tournaments not televised on nbc/cbs/abc. Either way from the highlights I saw it looked like a great time and I'm rooting for the young guys esp Fowler. Cause he is my homeboy.
