Punk Kids Burn Carnoustie
By Kickntrue on 4/15/10
Arsonists set fire to bushes on the famed grounds of Carnoustie, site of this year's Senior Open Championship (and site of past Majors).
Burning gorse bushes were discovered on Burnside Championship golf course at Carnoustie in the early hours.

Tayside Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fires and no damage was caused to the greens or fairways.

Insp Kenny Hart, in charge of policing in Carnoustie, said investigations suggested the fires had been set by local youths.

He added: "The Burnside Course here at Carnoustie is not only a local treasure, but one that is enjoyed by millions of golfers across the world who either travel to the area to play or who watch the Open and other golfing events on television.
I guess that's what you get for calling it "the Burnside Course." Just kidding. This is terrible. What ever happened to the good old days when kids toilet papered houses and threw eggs at cars? I made it through my youth by only making the police log once and it wasn't even local news (just the blotter for complaints made).

At least it appears that nothing was seriously ruined and thankfully nobody was injured. If they find the kids they should make them handpick the range while the players are warming up. The only problem with that idea is they'll probably think it's fun.

Gorse fires are no joke. One such fire is part of the history of Bandon Dunes in Oregon. "It has resin so rich that you can hold a match to a green leaf and light it. It burns like gasoline. In 1936, the Bandon gorse caught fire. The conflagration was so intense the the fire department finally gave up and sent its firefighters home to rescue their families. Half the town burned to the ground, and 11 people died" ( www.therealoregon.com/category/coast/page/2/).

I hope they catch them. Their punishment should be that they have to be lawn mowers for the course every day for 6 months. And by "be lawn mowers," I mean they should have to lie face down, as in a push-up position, have someone grab their feet and "drive" them as they use hands to move forward and their mouths to "mow" the grass.

Nah, Arron, just make them do the fairways with a push mower ;) that'll teach em a lesson. Especially if it isn't the sharpest hahahaa.

Punk kids just did some damage to my home course, Dyker Beach GC, in Brooklyn NY this passed weekend. There was a sweet 16 party on Sunday night and a bunch of the kids broke into the cart garage and drove about 15 carts into a bunker on the 10th hole. There were also about a dozen of them scattered across the 3rd hole. Quite amusing unless you put your ball in that trap..lol I have a photo of it of OOB wants a copy.

I am making the picture my default photo for all to see. It is terrible to destroy a course, but this was def a first to see.
Kickntrue says:
@meatball413- email me the picture at andrew@oobgolf.com. I'll see about posting it in a bigger size.

ooohhhhh geez meatball that's ridiculous
Torleif Sorenson says:
@birdieXris has it right: Put them on those old-fashioned, non-powered push mowers.
