Why I Sucked On Friday
By Kickntrue on 5/25/10
I went golfing with a couple oobers on Friday at Whitetail Golf Resort, in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania... and let me tell you, my play was HORRENDOUS. I've been trying to figure out why I was so awful and thought it could've been the fact that I couldn't keep a drive in play, but that wasn't it. I thought it could've been because I didn't hit a good iron all day, but it wasn't that either. I didn't make a putt outside of 3 feet all day, but that wasn't it either. The course was pretty tough and I was talked into playing the tips, but that isn't why I sucked.

The reason I sucked on Friday is because like Indian Jones, I hate snakes. The pic below is what greeted us on the 3rd hole of the day. Sure, I had already started triple/double but I'm sure my game would've come around, but I couldn't get this stupid thing out of my head on every shot. Anytime I had my back turned to anything higher than the fairway I was a nut case.

My bad play aside- I did have a great day with birdieXris (who should probably change his name to BogeyXris- ZING!), Ben Crane, and Carlos Franco. The pictures are from Chris, who was smart enough to bring his camera.

And a bonus pic of Carlos Franco.

@bogeyXris- that wouldn't be bad either!

I can say the entire write-up was true except for the "talked into playing the tips" part.

We always play tips when we're together.

Nicklaus already used that one from Trevino, be more original.

Too bad we can't see a unified scorecard showing the results for the entire foursome...

lol...I freaked my playing partner, strukes, out by letting him know about a snake that was sunning itself on one of the greens yesterday. It was just a little garter snake. Perfectly harmless, and I personally love snakes. I wouldn't want one for a pet or anything, and I'd probably run away screaming if I saw one of those rattlers they found in Jacksonville last year, but I'm fascinated by them. I guess I sometimes forget that other people might not hold the same fascination. Next time I see a snake on a green, I need to make sure I say "Oh, look at the green way up there! It has a snake on it!"

"Oh, look! A snake!" tends to freak people out.

Maybe we shouldn't have been hitting balls out of the gully on #14!

@ singledigits -- I have one. I'll neaten it up and post a picture on my profile this evening after my Tae Kwon Do class. When i say neaten it up, imagine Rodney Dangerfield's card from Caddyshack when he was "playing the worst round of his life." HAHAHa.

@ carlos -- That was all you guys. haha. I wasn't going in any of that scrub. That black snake was all i needed to see for me to not go wading in after $4.00 golfballs or a stroke.

@ carlos --- Hey the hole where i took that picture of you--- wasn't that the same hole that Andrew dropped his approach right ontop of mine from 200 yards?? LOL.

For those of you that don't know the story it's something that none of us had ever seen from that distance. We were both hitting from about the same part of the fairway and i mishit my hybrid and faded to the area just front and right of the green. Andrew gets up and proceeds to hit a mirrored shot, beautifully drawing into the green and it falls directly ontop of my ball in the fairway just in front, shooting his all the way to the back of the green and mine up the hill of rough on the right. Bad news for him because i think with the trajectory he'd have been pretty darn close.

Why does it look like Carlos is on the Gold tee box if you were hitting from the tips?

Ben Crane says:
@Zep - Carlos was the only one not playing from the tips. However, he is also the only one that gets a discount on his meal at the Golden Corral.

BTW, I think you encountered an Eastern Mud Snake, which is non-venomous and harmless (doesn't even bite). www.snakesandfrogs.com/scra/snakes/mud.htm

@ Singledigits -- I'm going with the Black Rat Snake. The stripes are white rather than brown. Rat snakes are found in PA too.
