Donald Trump in Scotland

Donald Trump has a golf show on The Golf Channel. Now he wants a golf resort in Scotland!

Trump wants to build the $1.6 billion golf resort near Aberdeen, which is 130 miles north of Edinburgh along the coast. One problem: Michael Forbes, a local farmer, owns a farm right in the middle of the planned resort. The Trump offered Forbes $750,000 for the farm.
Forbes — who opposes the resort — rejected the offer and instead sold an acre of the land to a group of 60 protesters who also oppose Trump's plans.

The group, Tripping Up Trump, said it had purchased the land and renamed it "The Bunker," slang for a golf course hazard.
I applaud Forbes' decision to fight to keep his land. I do think though he is fighting Donald Trump's imperialism more than he's trying to fight the resort.

If someone else had offered him a cool $750,000 for his land, I think Forbes would have taken it. It's just the fact the money comes from The Trump. Forbes is in for a fight because Donald doesn't lose very often. If Donald wants it, Donald gets it!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Donald build the resort around the farm.
mustang6560 says:
@mjaber- good point. just to spite the guy!
mjaber says:
@mustang... or just to make the course that much more interesting.
Torleif Sorenson says:
Agreed. Still, I'd really like to know how much of the landscape he's going to transform (aside from the hotel and all the luxury $tuff).

If he hires a traditionalist/minimalist architect like Tom Doak or Gil Hanse, then perhaps there's a chance that he might actually preside over the building of a truly great course and that the Aberdeen council would sign off on it. After all, lots of people scoffed at Mike Keiser's idea of a renaissance of a great sea-side traditionalist course. And now all four courses at Bandon Dunes are must-play, period.

@forbes: YOU'RE FIRED!
falcon50driver says:
In the U.S. they just take your land and call it imminent domain.
georgelohr says:
That story never states if Trumps offer was reasonable, maybe he was low-balling the guy. It only states that it is a "run-down family farm" could be more valuable than the $750K.
Kurt the Knife says:
Now that Trump wants it, it is definitely more valuable than 750k.
I say in the context of a 1.6 bil project, 1-2% of the projected cost is fair.

Mainly cuz I'm not crazy about that Trump fella.

Unless your name is Vera Coking.

@jeffcroupier- touche.

stupid pride. people are so stupid sometimes. who cares? why does this guy care so much about the land? 3/4 of a billion dollars. dude!? the only reason i could see someone not liking trump is because he doesn't send them a check every month. lame.
dpoimboeuf says:
I think Real Sports or somebody did a peice on this guy. He's just a quirky old fart that's trying to be a fly in the ointment just for the sake of disrupting progress. Trump's plan will represent huge economic development for the area, bring in jobs and money that will make everyone's life better. I'm all for private property rights on the otherhand, so I guess the Donald will have to deal with this guy on his terms. He swears there is no amount of money that Trump could pay him to leave.
