Paula Creamer Wins Women's US Open
By Kickntrue on 7/12/10
My girl Paula Creamer kept yesterday from being a complete bust. I tried to keep with the World Cup Final the best I could but, sheesh, what a lousy game. Fortunately, Paula was dissecting Oakmont in an absolutely breathtaking performance. I'm not going to lie, I figured I was turning to NBC for some drama- but I figured it'd be a trainwreck. Paula doesn't exactly have a history of finishing out majors real strong. Well- I got drama, but it was Creamer playing from the middle of the fairway to a couple feet from the pin hole after hole to close out and win her first major. She's been around so long it's hard to believe she's still only 24.
My favorite quote going into the week was Creamer, when all the other pros were complaining about how hard Oakmont was set up and how the winner would be +10. Paula said laughing, "Were they playing the same course?" Some golf courses just set up well to a player's eye, and clearly that's how Oakmont looked to Creamer.
Like any USGA event, the course was set up brutally tough with punitive rough and ridiculously fast greens. You know who does well on a course with 6 inch rough? The player with the straightest most accurate drives on Tour. Paula's victory this weekend reminded me a lot of Zach Johnson's victory at the Masters a few years ago. She's not the longest on Tour, but when you hit fairways and then precise irons, good things will happen.
Congrats to Paula and thanks for saving my TV afternoon!

Woo hoo! Go Pink Panther! I was really worried after she hit that approach and started yelling after she hurt her thumb (again). I held my breath, but she came out of it well and finished strong. My girl Christina Kim didn't put on an ultra strong showing, but T8 with like a dozen 3 putts isn't too shabby. She's gotta get that flat stick worked out.
Watched most of the back 9 yesterday. Was a great display of golf to watch.
Where was the pink ball?Great job Paula.
Had to quit watching when she had 2 holes to go so really good to see she finished strong.
Congrats to Paula.
No mention of Stricker's amazing display at the John Deere? Hmmm...
the slow mo shots of her wrist were awesome.
She's a hottie~~~
@kvsmith59- I'd say she's more of a cutie than a hottie, but I think it works for her better that way. Gives fans an illusion of having a realistic shot at her.
