Tiger May Ditch Caddie
By mustang6560 on 8/19/10
Tiger Woods shocked the world by switching his putter ahead of the 2010 British Open.

Is he on the verge of making another shocking decision by getting rid of his caddie?
New Zealander Steve Williams doesn't believe his job as Tiger Woods' caddie is under any threat, despite media speculation about their 11-year association and concern over the champion golfer's form.

Williams told New Zealand radio Wednesday that he and Woods remain close friends and there is no possibility their working relationship is about to end.
Tiger Woods used to be a very consistent guy. He putted with his Scotty Cameron, Steve Williams carried his bag and he won.

But lately it seems the only thing consistent in Tiger's life is inconsistency. I can understand how Tiger would want to change things up since he's not winning. However, he doesn't need to do anything drastic.

He is spending way too much time skirting around what's really causing his game to slip and not enough time trying to fix the problem. I understand the media makes these stories out to be more than they really are but Tiger, since your reading this, stick to what makes you successful. Your problems on the golf course are caused by your decision made off the course. Fix your life and then your golf game will come back.

I think getting rid of Williams would be foolish because the two have developed a relationship of winning.

Couldn't agree more. I like to think that when things go wrong, its the Indian's fault ... not the arrow's. Changing the putter was blamming the arrow. Complaining about the course would be blaming the reservation ... changing caddy's would be blaming the tribe ... it is the indian ... Tiger.

I guess you could say blaming the putter would be blaming the bow ... blaming the ball would be the arrow ... I think you get it. lol.

like the analogies. I agree. Tiger leaving stevie would just prolong his comeback. unless stevie banged Elin than i could see the reason.

@Banker - ooooo wouldn't that be some shizzle if it came out that he did! hahaha. For now though, i don't think he should ditch steve. They've been pretty good together, all things considered.

He needs an instructor not a new caddie. From the day he started playing he's had a coach. He dropped his coach and now he's playing poorly. Looks to me like he needs someone to tell him what to do. Would have helped in his private life too.

And what not to do. 'The way your swinging that thing it's going to get you into trouble'

Steve was there the whole time. "Tiger, concentrate on golf. Screw everything else." Has that motto changed?

Nethmonkey says:
@trikai the problem is once his wife found out, he stopped being able to screw everything else.

I think that Tiger should fire himself, and take up an occupation he is well suited for. Pimp

change is good. while together all this time, Tiger did his off course thingy, his wife was ignorant of what was happening, he was winning. His life was stable in a weird sort of way. Now that he's been busted out, everything in his life has changed and his future will be a lot different than his past. maybe it's time to cut the last remaining strings to the old life and start anew. This includes dumping Steve and starting fresh. If he had been an accountant and this happened, his co-workers would lose respect for him, his work might suffer and he would probably consider moving on to another firm where he'd have a new "assistant".....

DrumGuy13 says:
He's just gotta get his house in order before he should change anything about his game. Heck, I can't even play well when I did something stupid that my wife is cranky about. I can't imagine my game under the kind of scrutiny he is under. Probably why I'm a middle school teacher and not a pro golfer...ya' think?

Matt F says:
@mantajim - Sean Foley is his new swing coach. As much as I dislike him for his off course deeds, I think that if he takes the rest of the year off, gets his divorce sorted out and spends time with Foley, he'll be back to the top next year.

That being said, does anyone really believe that Steve didn't know what was going on, as he has said...I don't. He's just following a best practiced rule, you don't poop in your own bed.

Drumguy13: I am the same way. If i know the wifey is pissed about me golfing it weighs on me during my round. I gotta ahave a clear head and basically shut out the world and any problems i am having to shoot well.

bplewis24 says:
Maybe people should write articles about why Phil isn't leaving his caddie and frame it as a question. That would be about as relevant as this one, since it is apparently based on nothing but Steve Williams saying that nothing is happening.

mantajim says:
@mwfaith1971 - I saw something about Foley, but didn't think it was official. That should be good for him but I don't know if a couple of weeks can fix his game. Plus Tiger is heading to the first FedEx Cup event, 'The Barclays' No rest for the weary.

I think he needs to fire that sleaze Mark Steinberg who hangs around him like the flea bag he is. He has done nothing but give him bad advice, thinking about the millions he makes aff Tiger, and not about Tiger. All said and done, I miss watching Tiger be Tiger on the golf course.

Tiger,
You are swinging too fast and too hard! Get some tempo to your game.

@bplewis: exactly right.

ToddRobb says:
All I know is if they stay together they need to work on their hi fives, hand slaps and fist bumps. They have the most awkward celebrations in sports history. That being said, when Tiger's mind is right he will play great golf again. If it takes him to shake some excess baggage, so be it. It's well documented that the golfer, caddie relationship IS like a marriage, sometimes it just runs it's course.
