Kind of "owl-looking"
Owl Almost Goes Cruising
By Kickntrue on 9/21/10
This is one of the odder stories I've ever had to title.
A rare burrowing owl has been rescued from the world's largest cruise ship, where it had apparently tried to set up home on a miniature golf course.

The "birdie" was spotted on board the Oasis of the Seas just hours before it set sail for the Caribbean from Port Everglades in Florida.

...

"Burrowing owls need to be in open, treeless areas where they can dig their burrow," said FWC biologist Ricardo Zambrano.

"The artificial turf on the ship's golf course resembles the fields they use for nesting in urban areas; however, it was obviously not suitable habitat for this owl."
When I hear the word "owl" I think of the stereotypical nighthawk. Wise and mature, hooting and cooing, all while hunting down little rodents. Then, I saw this story and the burrowing owl. I demand a reclassification! I'm glad they saved the bird and all (I don't really care), but for science to name this thing an "owl" is a disgrace, regardless of its genes and DNA. This thing looks like something my cat (if I had a cat) would play around with as desert. A "real" owl would kick a cat's butt!

Oh yah... see how this happened on a mini golf course?! That's why you are reading this right now (since I'm sure you were wondering).

EDITORS NOTE- the picture with this story kind of looks like an owl- but see the photo on the link below. Looks nothing like an owl.

Careful, or you may run a "fowl" with the OADL (Owl Anti Defamation League). As a tree hugger and former Boy Scout, I can attest to the fact that owls come in all sorts of sizes. You obviously are thinking of the Great Horned Owl, which is capable of killing eagles or fairly sizable mammals.

I've got a 26lb cat that can take down just about anything. I've come to the conclusion that any "dog" smaller than my cat is not, in fact, a dog. And before all you SPCA people start yelling at me for having a 26lb cat and that he's fat, and blah blah blah... he's at least part Maine Coon cat. He is not fat. He's just big.

Banker85 says:
so what would you call a dog < 26lbs?

mjaber says:
@Banker85... a friend of mine came up with "barking cat." Until a better description comes along, I go with that.

@mjaber: Any man that owns a cat is not, in fact, a man.

Not much of a nature boy, huh, kickntrue. Open up any bird book, look up owls and there is no mistaking that bird for anything other than an owl. Please, the golf connection is thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnn and so is your knowledge of birds. Go hit a bucket of balls;^)

@ponderous - I'll go one further and say anyone who owns a cat, in fact does not, the cat owns them for comedy purposes.

@mantajim- I'll give you that the picture i used for the story is obviously an owl (it doesn't take an ornothologist to see that), but i wrote the article based on the picture from the full story link. I'd argue that it doesn't look like an owl in that picture. i realized afterwards it was a bit goofy... but whatever. it was written.

@Kickntrue... I'd say that it looks like an owl. A small one, but still an owl.

Ok ok, not much happening in the golf world, season's winding down, tigers not playing this weekend, so you google 'golf' and make a story out of what ever you find. It's still an owl even in the full story pic. Time for another bucket of balls ;^)
