Ryder Cup Trash Talk Open Thread
By Kickntrue on 9/30/10
** GIVEAWAY OVER **

The Ryder Cup is here. Americans... Europeans... let's unite- in trash talk!

It wouldn't be fair for me to use this space as my forum- so I'll use the comments as well.

You shouldn't need any incentive to talk crap- but because I'm in a good mood... every comment on this post will get you an entry into a drawing for a giveaway! I haven't decided on the prize yet- it will probably depend on the number of comments we get... but have we ever let you down before?!

JuKu says:
No trash talk, Europe wins with style.

ilovebacon says:
I wonder what Paul Casey is doing right now.
Lucky for Monty that it'll be very difficult to out-dumb Faldo's decisions from 2008. Prediction: USA 14.5, Europe 13.5, with Stricker sinking a putt on Sunday to win it.

Shane1 says:
If it's supposed to be "Team Europe," then how come only one Ryder Cup has been played on the continent? (Spain-1997) Seems like the "Europeans" are still pretty much a UK team.....

birdieXris says:
I"m really looking forward to the matches tomorrow. Looks like there's a good matchup all around, well I've got Luke and Padraig over Bubba and Jeff. That's my only USA loss for tomorrow - if tiger decides to show up that is.

No trash talking for me, just what i like. It's gonna be good golf to watch. i think the only runaway is going to be Cink and Kuchar. I've got them 3 and 2 over Rory and Graeme

Backquak says:
I say Rors and Graeme take it 5 and 4, Europe wins all but 1 match, and that's only cause Stricker carries Tiger to keep their record going.

sjduffers says:
As a European living in the US, I am torn... Why can't we get along? :-)

I want to see good golf, some suspense and also Corey trashing Monty!

askarzy says:
should be very entertaining, I think the US will defend there title though.

Matt Otskey says:
I'm liking USA's chances. Paddy was a poor choice by Monty and the Europeans will pay the price!

mjaber says:
It's a shame that an entire continent needs to team up to try and beat one country...

ilovebacon says:
Looks like Sun Mountain's Rain Suit division is done. Tiger elected to play in sideways rain without rain jacket because not only was it not waterproof - it was retaining water. Too bad mother nature is winning - hopefully weather gets better so both teams' skills can be showcased. If it stays like this, advantage Europe.

mjaber says:
I just read that Stricker was looking for relief from standing water on the 4th fairway, and couldn't find any...

bkuehn1952 says:
It is hard to believe that all the clothing and equipment was not checked and tested prior to today. "ilovebacon" is right, Sun Mountain has one huge black eye from this debacle.

As a side note, after playing in the remnants of Typhoon Melor a year ago, I decided to upgrade my rain gear. Purely by accident I managed to get a top of the line Pro Quip suit at a bargain price. Now I can brag about my suit being the replacement brand selected by the US Ryder Cup team. (okay, most people are going to think I am nuts to play in the rain, never mind bragging about my rain suit - at least I stay dry).

Trav says:
Pavin's got some 'splainin to do about the wet suits, um, rain suits:

"'Lisa [his wife] has an unlimited budget with clothing at home, so I just want to give you guys a fair warning right now about the clothing,' Pavin said that day." sports.espn.go.com/golf/rydercup10/news/story?id

She probably liked the colors, didn't think about minor stuff like testing it out first.

Big difference from Azinger, and not for the better.

Banker85 says:
ya this crap with his wife all involved is annoying. go make some sandwiches or seomthing Mrs. Pavin.

smack talk time. all this hype over europes team it is going to be hilarious when they get there panise asses handed to them by the best golfers in the world who actually play where it matters AMERICA!

Banker85 says:
i cant wait for Tiger to spank Mcilroy for his early trash talk a month or two ago.

Kurt the Knife says:
Trash talk not my thing but I'll give it a go.

"Hey, McIlroy! What's the difference between an Irish funeral and an Irish wedding?"

"One less drunk."
10/1/10

Swingem says:
Pavin forgets to introduce Stewart Cink?! Perhaps he's too focused on Captain Lisa and her two co-captains.
10/1/10

ilovebacon says:
Interesting that this has turned into a USA vs. Team Pavin trash talk session.
Losers today: Team Pavin, Sun Mountain, fans that traveled to Wales from around the world.
Winners today: ProQuip, Mother Nature, Monty (letting his team tweet so we can have some entertainment during rain delay), Zinger-as Trav said, this wardrobe malfunction wouldn't have happened on Zinger's watch.
Still - go USA!!!

mbills1015 says:
I keep seeing pictures of team USA's rain gear that didn't work --- I keep asking myself whether Mrs. Pavin knows her husband plays golf. Those jackets look like they're warming up for an old ABA bball game... they're just ridiculous!

dottomm says:
I'd really like to see the Mollinari Brothers do something spectacular.

legitimatebeef says:
Corey Pavin is a douche.
10/1/10

Swingem says:
And being married to Lisa, he's lovin it.
10/1/10

mjaber says:
Hey Europe... our rain-gear sucked and we're still up 2-1-1!!!!!
10/1/10

legitimatebeef says:
I don't care who wins. Just want to see some good golf played. I'm not that crazy about using golf as a stage for patriotism. I consider myself a golfer first then an American. It's alright to have a fun little exhibition match, but this Ryder Cup thing is blown all out of proportion. All the pomp and circumstance plus the phony half baked pro wrestling style drama and pre-hype gives me the douche chills. Right now Mr and Mrs Pavin are doing a great job of keeping the spotlight on themselves. Suckin' most of the fun right out of this thing.

carv712 says:
I'm not sure about trash talking another continent, but I will say Lee Westwood looks like a giant doucher. How about a poll where we tally up how many people would like to punch him in the throat. I'll start: 1

greendevil says:
I'm American but hate the whole USA, USA chant; too simple and unimaginative. Can't we come up with a great chant or song like the soccer/rugby loving countries do? Anything besides bellowing USA, USA like a Barbarian.

Regardless, go USA! Win another one for us!
10/1/10

Kurt the Knife says:
@ redsfan

How 'bout,
"Prevail upon your most unworthy opponents members of this imperialist republic!"
"Prevail upon your most unworthy opponents members of this imperialist republic!"
"Prevail upon your most unworthy opponents members of this imperialist republic!"

hard to get the rhythm but you get what i mean.
10/1/10

rmumph1 says:
I'm chanting it now Kurt. After one run through, I switched back to USA!!USA!!! I don't know why anyone would want to be like soccer/rugby. We could start killing players that lose the game, riots in the stands. Just a thought

Banker85 says:
hey euros, i didnt see who is leading? oh YA WE ARE!

bstacy1974 says:
Not really trash talk, but...
One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints, and were stuck in the thick head.

The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer, and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened.

The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer, and started yelling, "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT YOU BASTARD!!!!"

Wow, great opening match by Watson and Overton!!! I'm sure you socialist Europeans were licking your chops for Donald and Paddy to "spank those unruly Yanks." Ooops!!!!!

localrob says:
No trash talk. More of an observation. Golf has a difficult time enough with the rest of the sporting world. Why would they dress the players so ridiculously. The Europe team isn't too bad with their black/ white checkered sweaters. But whoever chose light Purple for team USA should have to run around on the driving range while the players practice.

On a side note - GO USA!

wantes says:
Hi
Yesterday I thought the Americans were going to win, but now, it seems the Europeans are much much stronger.
Amazing and kind of embarrasing how little golf tiger and phil are playing. Lee Westwood should be n1 before the end of the year.

dd5277 says:
If I ever suggest going to Wales for a vacation, somebody smack me up alongside the head. Anyway, Phil looks like a choke (again), and Dustin just looks lost. GO USA!

Oh dear banker85.

Want to take another look at who's leading?!

Oh yeah, WE are ;)

For sale, as good as new, in their original packaging (one opened for a quick look but unused): six USA victories :D.

Great win Stricker!!! Way to rally back and take down Lee Westwood.....

Great job from Poult. McIlroy dodges the bullet... it's gonna be tight!

At least it was Mcdowell I love that guy...
10/4/10

DiC says:
Although I'm happy for it to be a Euro win I do feel bad for your man Mahan with a duffed chip to hand it over. It's the sort of chip that we'd all make a few times a round but there's wouldn't be millions of people watching and for it to mean so much!

Well done boys! Great match (even having to listen to it on the radio at work), can't wait for 2 years time!
10/4/10

mjaber says:
With the way yesterday ended, the US did a great job coming back to make it as close as it was. Well done.

I blame Pavin and the purple cardigans.
