PGA Tour Could Allow Cell Phones
By Kickntrue on 11/22/10
The PGA Tour is considering a change to their no cell phone policy for events.
In an effort to keep up with the times, the PGA Tour will likely allow fans to have cell phones next year, according to the Golf Channel’s Steve Sands. At the Wyndham Championship this August, the Tour tested out this proposed policy and the worst thing that happened was probably Anthony Kim’s friends taking pictures and video in the gallery (which was against the rules!).Meh. I don't really see that this will increase attendance. Are people really not going to events because they can't bring in their phones? I doubt it. It's one of those things where 99.9% of people can respectful and doing things the right way but it only takes a couple jackasses to mess the whole thing up. These jackasses are still going to exist.
Tiger better keep meditating and really get calm, because you know the first time this blows up- he'll be involved. Dude can't handle the practices of the professional photographers, you think he's going to enjoy swinging with a thousand little beeps going off in his swing. You KNOW it's going to happen.

Yea i don't see this being a good thing necessarily. I mean, it would be great to tweet and text and all that when you're roaming around and have some sort of communication with your group, but like you said - there's always the one jackass in anything that screws it up for the majority.
i never even thought/knew that cell phones would/are be banned but i guess it makes sense... one idiot ruins for the rest. i hate not having my phone on me. in this day and age though? i can easily golf with noise in the background i don't get the whole dead silence thing. maybe its cause my babies seem to be always screaming. ohhh fatherhood.
Kurt the Knife says:
Seemed to me a rather soft enforcement at the Prez Cup and USopen as I saw folks all over the place with mobile devices.
I didn't take mine in cuz they said in the ticket pack they were banned.
Not so much in my experience.
I thought this was already done... a fait accompli? They definitely should allow them in this day and age otherwise the attendance will certainly lag. Regular reminders of cell phone etiquette will be necessary but thats the price for ... normalcy.
