Ice Golf, Anyone?
By mustang6560 on 2/11/11
I've heard of night golf. But I've never heard of ice golf.
The Chili Open Golf Classic is just that - an ice golfing extravaganza. It's played in February every year in Berea, OH as a way to play a little golf, raise money for charity and drink beer.

I guess part of the reason I've never heard of ice golf is because I live in the deep south and we're lucky to be able to play actual golf most of the year. We've seen extra wintry weather this winter, but I've had the opportunity to play most weekends (I say opportunity because I've not actually played each weekend).
In case you were planning on playing this event, it's been postponed until February 19th due to the recent blizzard. Now what's ice golf without a blizzard?
I am interested to see if any of oobers have played in the Chili Classic or ice golf in general. Let us know in the comments section.
Editor’s Note: After doing some more research, I’ve realized I’m behind the 8-ball on this whole ice golf thing. Looks like they even have an Ice Golf Championship.

I think the order of reasons to play was put in the wrong order, it should be drink beer, play golf, then raise money for charity.
There are "Chili" opens held around SE Michigan. Typically one is allowed to "lift, clean & place" one's golf ball anywhere through the green. The "green" is usually a circle at the end of the fairway where the snow and ice has been removed.
I have played in a couple events over the years. These things are okay but far enough from real golf so as to not tempt me to regularly participate.

We have an annual ice golf event locally. They usually hold it the first week in February. It was -20 the first week of February. No way in hell.

Here in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Majestic Oaks GC also has winter golf on a regular basis:
