The Masters Round 1
By mustang6560 on 4/8/11
Andrew and I had difficulty trying to stream coverage live from TheMasters.com yesterday. Did anyone else have trouble too? Andrew is a really even-tempered guy, but we almost had to give him a triple shot of bourbon to get him to calm down yesterday when we couldn't get find live coverage.

We ended up watching online at CBSsports.com. The funny thing was, it's the same coverage on both sites so it didn't make any sense why we couldn't get coverage to work on themasters.com.

Anywho, I thought I'd share some of what I found interesting from the first round of The Masters.
  • Rory Mcilroy leading at -7 under - I know he's a talented golfer, but he missed the cut last year. We'll see how he does today. Anyone remember The Open last year at St. Andrews?

  • Sergio Garcia in the top 10 - With only two starts on the PGA Tour this season, Sergio came out on (relative) fire today posting a 3-under. Wonder if he can keep that up?

  • Martin Kaymer implodes - Anyone seen Martin's game? I think it might have gotten lost somewhere during the trip to Augusta.

  • Tiger Woods shoots respectable -1 - I said (to myself) before The Masters starts that if Tiger has a quiet Thursday and Friday, be wary. Tiger finds a way to get it done on the weekend, especially at The Masters. If he's in contention going into the weekend, people will be talking about the "Tiger comeback on Sunday back in 2011".

  • Peter Uihlein posts a decent score - I said before the tournament started that I didn't think Peter had a chance to win. I still stand by that, but he didn't do as bad as I thought.
Can't wait for another great day of play. Hopefully my boy Bubba can catch on fire today and climb his way to the top of the leaderboard!

I didn't have any trouble streaming from Masters.com on my Droid (streaming is blocked by the firewall @ work).

I don't think Tiger will be a factor. He'll make the cut, but he won't crack the top 20.

I also ended up on CBS Sports. My work computer did not like Masters.com at all. Great showing by Rory yesterday. Still wide open, I'm not going to make any predictions except for LegitimateBeef nailing Mustang on typos in 3...2...

@homermania- nice. Mustang Sally is the king of typos. even worse than me.

I thought day 1 was a good start- nice story lines with Mickelson and Tiger playing okay- and Rory going off. I think Tiger is in a tough position having already played his morning around with the usually easier conditions. He goes off 2nd to last today- and would have to think par or -1 will be a good round- putting him probably 8 to 9 back going into the weekend. That's tough.

@KtK- it must have been a computer-level issue with me. Tried 4 browsers- none worked. Dude in office next to me could watch it fine- so it wasn't firewall issue or something. Dumb.

You know, if someone would have told me that the leaderboard would look like it did after today, i'd have told them they were crazy. Outstanding showing by the young guns of the tour. I can't wait for the play today. I'll have it on my computer all day.

As Paul Azinger kept pointing out on Twitter yesterday, Rory really did have the very worst of some appalling weather on Friday at St. Andrews last year. It'd be a great surprise if his round today was anything like it.

Not surprising to see Choi and Yang playing well, although I still think it's Rory's time. Sorry to see Alvaro Quiros tumbling down the leaderboard...
