Rory McIlroy With Green Jacket
By mustang6560 on 4/12/11
+1 for Rory McIlroy.
Rory posted this picture on his Twitter last night with this caption:
Flying to Malaysia with charl! Glad one of us has a green jacket on!!!It takes a certain kind of person to be able to eat humble pie with grace. As with the majority of people, I like Rory and was rooting for him on Sunday.
But, seeing him take a picture with Charl Schwartzel in his green jacket only makes me like him more. I'm not sure I would have had the stomach to take this picture, let along post it on my own Twitter within a few hours of such defeat.
I know these most of the guys on Tour our friends and there's no ill will towards each other. But after missing out on an opportunity to win Augusta, I'm not sure how friendly I'd be. Rock on Rory!

Can't say I'm a fan of Rory, but he has shown himself to be a "good sport." His post-round interview was honest and open. He screwed the pooch. He knows it. He also seems to realize that he is EXTREMELY lucky to be playing golf for a living, and a damn good living at that. Like I said, I'm not a fan, but I do respect him.
What's your beef with Rory?
Would you feel the same way if he was American?
Good for him!
@mustang... no beef. Just not a fan.
my beef started when he was calling out Tiger with a whole 2 wins under his belt. Seems disrespectful to do that to a living legend. I was not rooting for him at all. I was rooting for someone to come from behind becasue wire to wire wins are a bit boring to me. I do not even know if i would have gotten on the plane with Charl. But he is a good sport(loser).
I like him more and more and this is a prime example of why. It seems like if anyone challenges Tiger they are immediately pounced on by his fans. If I was good enough to be a PGA tour Professional I would relish the challenge and do my very best to beat the best in the world but for some reason if someone steps up and says they "like they're chances, with the present state of his game" it like its blasphemy or something. The kid is good, he's talented, humble, and confident. I love a good rivalry and I have never been a fan of Ian Poulter but I like his attitude, these guys are the best and if they are going to stay at the top or even climb to the top they have to think of themselves as the best in the world and want to challenge anyone ranked near them. GO RORY!!

Jeez. 23k one way transpacific means we get another coupla guys on a GIII n that means I'm paying 8K...I'll have my pic with some dude in a goofy green jacket to save 15 large.
Backquak: Though I am a Tiger fan, I do agree, for the most part, with your opinion on the matter. I feel Tiger's dominance over the years has inspired all others to raise their game. He is a primary reason why there is such a large crop of golfers playing the PGA Tour who have the skills and abilities to beat him, even when he is playing close to his best. I have no problem with anyone challenging Tiger, but I'd rather see them do it when he's playing well again, then go out there and back it up. Rory's a good kid and has proven to be, an extremely good professional golfer. I wish him well and hope he continues to grow into a major force on the Tour.
I agree Tiger is great, but why are people (including, most of all Tiger) when they call it like they see it? Rory said 11 months back that Tiger is not the same player he was, and Tiger has done nothing to disprove that theory.
Tiger has increased the purse sizes for everyone, agreed, and have to give him credit for that, but it's ok to call out someone for not being the same player they used to be.
And, why the f#$K does Tiger not answer the question in press conferences? That is so annoying. Been a Tiger fan and will be for life, but let's call a spade a spade guys.

One things for sure, I like him alot more than Westwood and Poulter. It just seems like he gets it.
It seems like since young Rory could not be the Masters winner, he's trying hard to be the best loser the world ever saw. Ok we get it you're mature.
How did he get off the grounds of the golf club with the jacket. It's supposed to stay at the club. I remember when Gary Player won his, he wore it home to South Africa. When they called him about it , he said
"well come and try to get it".
Merlin: I believe you get to keep the jacket for (2 weeks?) something like that.
I think some of you guys that are bashing Rory for 'having a go' at Tiger need to see the media's role in all of this.
For example, Poulter was asked if he thought Tiger would finish top five. He gave an honest answer and was mad to look like a right dick for his troubles.
I wouldn't be too surprised if Rory was put in simlar spot with the Tiger quote.
Lets be honest, TV and Papers are about getting the audience reaction, they don't care about the methods.
