David Toms Is Leading The Players
By mustang6560 on 5/13/11
It's not unusual to find David Toms near the top of the leaderboard on Thursday and maybe Friday, but by the weekend, you'll need to use your mouse to scroll down to find him. The man has a lot of talent, but it just seems he consistently under shoots his potential.
He has 12 career titles on the PGA Tour including the 2001 PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club, but he hasn't won since 2006. Since then, the best he's done was in 2009 when he finished 12th on the money list.
Hopefully, he can turn it around this weekend at TPC Sawgrass
The key is patience. Something the 44-year-old former PGA champ hasn’t always had at TPC Sawgrass. In fact, he missed the cut the first six times he played here. Since then? Just one top 10 — in 2008. In other words? He’s been all over the map.Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see my fellow LSU Tiger David Toms on top of the leaderboard at The Players. He opened with a six-under 66 yesterday and he is currently hovering around three-under for the day. It's just I'm getting bored watching his name drop of the leaderboard by the start of the weekend. Even though I'll probably be disappointed again, I'm still going to be rooting for him.
Les geaux David!
**Note** If you don't know already, let me tell you my alma mater is THE Louisiana State University (yes, I am mocking Ohio State).

Goydos could soon join him atop the leaderboard. Rocco is climbing too. What a weird weekend it could turn out to be.
8 of the top 9 right now are American, too. Take that world. :)
We can just hope that this is his week for a change, I am from Louisiana and I am a grad of the LSU Law Enforcement Training Academy, I always put David Toms on my fantasy team. GEAUX TIGERS & GODD LUCK TO DAVID
I never wanted to like Toms, just assumed he was a Brandel Chamblee type of arrogant Southern country club douche. But then I saw some interviews and in particular his episode of "Playing Lessons with the Pros" (I love that show, it's one of the best on that channel, too bad its pretty much nonexistent right now) and he just seems like a very cool dude, exactly the kind of golfer you'd want to play a round with.
@legitimatebeef: i think it's the visor. people who wear visors are typically DBs to me.
If i could punch anyone in the face Brandel Chamblee would be in the top 3. hate that snob ass DB.
"...arrogant Southern country club douche." Yup, that pretty much sums up how I feel when Golf Channel "parts the waters" for the arrival of Mr. Douche "in studio." I've just begun to re-discover golf after a 15-year break, and frequently tune in to Golf Channel. Whenever Chamblee appears, his ego and sense of superiority comes across loud and clear...the body posture, the affected gravitas, the de rigueur pronunciation of "ammeter" (and not the one that measures voltage resistance), all contributing to a kind of natural human reaction when encountering The Despicable Among Us.
