End of an Era for Tiger Woods
By mustang6560 on 5/19/11
Where were you on April 6, 1997?
Don't remember? Me either. But it was the day a young Tiger Woods broke into the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time after winning The Masters by an astonishing 12 strokes.
For the next 14 years, Tiger dominated golf and the OWGR. But, that streak is coming to an end. For the first time since winning the '97 Masters, Tiger will fall outside the top 10 of the OWGR. The news is big enough that even NPR mentioned it yesterday in their news update on the hour.
Woods has not won a tournament in 18 months, meaning more points will be coming off his two-year ledger this week. As a result, the highest he can be ranked next week is No. 11.It seems like it was just yesterday when Mr. Woods was knocking it in the hole, dominating the field and making it all look so easy. Now it seems Tiger doesn't know where the hole is.
I used to think it was just a matter of time before Tiger broke Jack Nicklaus's record of 18 majors. But now I'm not quite so sure. It's not because he doesn't have the talent, it's because I'm not sure his body will let him. The fact he is still having trouble with his left knee is alarming. If I was in Tiger's camp and he truly wanted to pass Jack, I'd tell him to take the rest of the year off to fully recover.

Will that stop the reporting too?
Maybe should hold off on the obituaries for now.
I bet trying to win and stay in the top 10 is part of the reason he keeps wanting to come back
I have dealt with bad knees, funny, I almost went to golf when I was 18 because my knee op, and I wan't something easier on the knees than Soccer Cricket and Tennis.
But you can't feel it, so you want to play, then you feel it, and square one again.
Its tough, real tough.
I hope he rests enough too.
I want to see him do well.
Knock off some of those brits ;)
Tiger is still ahead of jack age wise to the number of majors. Still possible. He just needs to get healthy and win. I think a win will go so far for Tiger. only time will tell how this story ends.
I don't know what to think about Tiger anymore. He struggles. Finishes T-4 in the Masters two years in a row, then can't seem to get it going in any other tournament. Considering his personal issues and the lost to Y.E. Yang a couple of years ago during the PGA, did all of that just take him completely out of his mental game? I guess time will tell.
