Jack Nicklaus Says Tiger Woods May Miss U.S. Open
By mustang6560 on 6/1/11
Tiger Woods insists "he'll do whatever is necessary to play in the U.S. Open". But ever since he pulled out of The Players last month, the media has been probing anyone and everyone to find out if Tiger will in fact be ready for Congressional in two weeks.

The latest person to be interrogated was Jack Nicklaus. In his annual pre-tournament interview at the Memorial Tournament, Jack was asked to talk about Tiger Woods's knee injury and before the reporter could finish the question, Jack interrupted saying:
I would have no clue. Tiger called me Friday and he was trying to he said, I tried up until today to see if I'm going to be able to come and play, but I can't. He said, I'm still hobbling, and he said, I don't know whether I'm going to make the U.S. Open or not.

I suspect he'll make the U.S. Open, but I don't know whether he will. I don't know the extent of his injuries.
I think it was very classy of Tiger to reach out personally to Jack. He very well could have sent an email or had his agent contact the tournament director letting them know he wouldn't be able to attend. It shows you that Tiger is in fact tactful and has respect for the previous generation of players.

Jack also said that during his conversation with Tiger, he offered this advice:
I told Tiger when I was on the phone with him, which is the same thing I've said to him a thousand times, Tiger, nobody ever wants records to be broken. That's obvious. I mean, I don't care who it is. But I certainly don't want you not to be healthy and not have the opportunity to play to break records. I want you to get yourself healthy, do what you have to do to go play, get your golf game back in shape, and I wish you well, wish you good luck, which I would say that to any athlete and anybody, because I think that's the way it should be.

But what his situation is, I don't know any more than you know about what I read.

i hope he's ready. and i hope he's ready enough to make it to sunday. My father has never seen tiger woods play in person. He's coming to congressional with me so i think it would be awesome if we could be there when tiger is. just so he could see.

Later in the interview, Jack mentions that @mustang's sister is hot.
Banker85 says:
I dont think he is gonna bite homermania. Funny how the heck would Jack know if Tiger is going to play or not. The media is annoying with the dumb questions they ask just to fill out a pointless article. Everyone wants Tiger to be ready and contend in the US Open. lets just cross our fingers...
homermania says:
Yeah, I'm done.
Kurt the Knife says:
There was a fundamental tenet in a style of Kung-Fu I studied which we found to be absolutely true (western-style medical analysis has found it to be true also). That the physical is a direct reflection of the quality/health of the subcounscious. Its obvious Tiger still has some deeper healing to do before his body correseponds.
Kickntrue says:
"whatever is necessary..." the dude has played on a broken leg before. i wonder if he's willing to take it that far again.
birdieXris says:
i don't think he'll do the broken leg thing again because that seriously screwed up his game afterward (along with all the cheating and whatnot). He was in way different form when he won that open and not so much now after not winning in however long it's been - i've lost count. No, if he's smart he'll stay away and get healthy. If he's 110% he'll come out and play. I don't know if his marketability can stand another withdrawal after 9 holes. He desperately needs a win though.
Duke of Hazards says:
wow. look at kurt getting all eastern, kung-fuey philosophical.
