US Open Sectional Qualifying Today
By mustang6560 on 6/6/11
Do you know anyone trying to qualify for the US Open at Congressional today?

I don't, but there are over 800 people trying to qualify for the last 63 spots in 11 Open Sectionals across the country so I figured someone would have to know a friend or a friend's friend who is trying to qualify.

One of the major storylines coming out of the Ohio Sectional is Vijay Singh skipped his tee time this morning at Brookside Country Club, which essentially ended his streak of playing in 62 consecutive major tournaments - a streak that dates back to the mid-90s. He could still qualify if he wins or finishes second at the FedEx St. Jude Classic this week, but it doesn't look like he's entered. The three-time major champion and former world No. 1 could still receive a last minute special exemption but the USGA executive director said "no special exemptions were likely to be awarded this year."

If you are interested in following the 36-hole qualifiers, check out Geoff Shackelford's blog. He listed the location and course for each sectional and provided a link to the pairings and scoring.
