Lee Westwood Should Win FedEx St. Jude Classic
By mustang6560 on 6/8/11
Lee Westwood is the only player inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking who is playing this weekend at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Since the field is significantly weaker than normal at TPC Southwind, does that mean the expectation is Lee should win again this year?
Lee is currently ranked No. 2 in the OWGR and the next highest ranked player to participate this week is Robert Karlsson - who is No. 23. So if you do the math, only two out of the world's top 25 golfers are competing. I'm not trying to knock the FedEx St. Jude Classic or the players in the field, I'm merely trying to point out that I think this is a must win for Lee. I mean, if he can't beat a field of middle of the pack golfers, how is he ever going to win a major?
The US Open at Congressional Country Club is next week and it's by far the toughest test in golf. In order to prepare for the mental and physical beating, I think Lee needs to raise the stakes for this week by saying anything less than defending his title will be a complete disappointment. It's not an unrealistic expectation considering he is by far the best golfer in the field in Memphis. In my opinion, simply playing for a T26 finish should be a massive disappointment.
I know Lee's said before that if he never wins a major in his career it wouldn't be a big deal. I just don't buy it.

Westwood should expect to win*
*without Tiger in the field.
Sounds like a Euro Tour event. No wonder Lee wins over there more then in the US. Notice a trend in my comments today?
Everyone can have bad weeks, good weeks etc, but he should be the fav.
Yeah Westwood should win*
Kurt the Knife says:
that's funny because he beat Robert Karlsson in a playoff in last year's St. Jude....
Lee is my pick *
Do you think there could be a bunch of Fedex guys blocking the UPS delivery of his clubs?
