Interview With Borchart2007 (Trickshot Guy)
By Kickntrue on 3/14/07
The internet is a beautiful thing. Over the last couple of days we've posted some new videos that have surfaced on YouTube of a guy doing indoor golf trickshots. We've tracked him down (actually- his friends tracked us down) and I asked him a couple questions about his antics. Now we just have to convince him to use the site so we can watch his REAL game develop. Check out the interview after the jump!
Interview with Justin Borchart aka Borchart2007:
What was the inspiration behind the clips? What made you decide to film them?
What inspired me to do all of the videos is simple, boredom. Nothing makes you do dumber things than being bored. I had nothing going on one day, and I was sick of sitting on my butt, so I decided to mess around with the golf clubs a little bit. I'm actually really glad i started, because now I have something to do every time I get bored.
Are you good at golf? What do you usually shoot/handicap?
Once i get into the swing of things my handicap is about 7.5 - 8.5. Somedays are better than others.
How many takes did they take to get right?
Suprisingly none of them took too long. I think the most time consuming shot was the 30 foot shot into the drinking glass, mainly because when I missed, the balls would bounce all the way down my stairs into my basement. It was the ball retreival that took the longest. That shot took right around 25 tries. I'm pretty sure I got VERY luck on that shot though, because afterwords I tried to throw the ball in the same cup from about 3 feet away, and after throwing 15 times, I gave up because the ball would always hit the rim of the cup, or bounce out. Other than that, some videos take only a couple shots, and others can take up to about 25. Depending on the difficulty of the shot.
Which clip is your favorite?
My favorite video would have to be the 30 foot shot into the drinking glass. That was the first of my golf trick shots, and it really got the whole thing started. And according to my friends it's the best one I've done.
What has the response been?
The response has been amazing actually. I've seen a couple websites thave have posted the videos onto their home page, just like oobgolf. My parents think it's hilarious, and my friends all seem pretty amazed by it. I actually have had offers from some of my friends to be a part of the trick. One of them wants to tape a cup to his back, and bearcrawl away from me as I hit it in the cup. So be on the look out for that one. Coming soon! haha.
Anything else you'd like to add/share?
There are 9 videos now, and if I get bored tonight, there will probably be 10 by tomorrow. Anybody can do any of the stuff on the vids, it just might take some time. But it's always something to do when you are bored.
Here is his (and our) favorite clip. If you don't think this is hard- try it! I dare you. I was messing around in my basement last night, and it's not easy. He definately got lucky catching this on on film!
