So Yeon Ryu Wins U.S. Women's Open
By mustang6560 on 7/11/11
After multiple weather delays that forced the finish to spill into today, So Yeon Ryu is the 2011 U.S. Women's Open champion.

Hee Kyung Seo managed to sneak her round in yesterday before play was suspended due to darkness, which gave her a huge advantage. She a one-stroke lead into the clubhouse over fellow countrywoman Ryu, who had three holes left to play.

While many were ready to give the title to Seo, Ryu still had life left and she managed to birdie the 72nd hole at The Broadmoor to force a playoff. The playoff consisted of a three holes where the low aggregate won. Both ladies managed to par the 16th, but Seo hit an errant drive on hole 17 which opened the door for Ryo. Ryo put together back to back birdies on 17 and 18 to win in style.

It's funny how quickly the the tables turned. I can't help but feel bad for Seo. She went from nearly winning the tournament to losing in a playoff where she had to start playing cold. Golf's notorious for being a painful sport and I think this loss will definitely leave scars on Seo.

This year's U.S. Women's Open played like a traditional U.S. Open, only three people finished under par. I think the USGA was very careful with the final preparations at The Broadmoor because they did not want to let the word "easy" describe two of its signature events back to back.

Mission accomplished.

It was a great playoff. I was able to watch over lunch on my computer. Ryu was totally in control. There was no way to beat her. Every swing was perfect! I liked her attitude at the end though. you could tell that this was a big thing for her, even though she won overseas 6 times. It's her first major, of many i think. Look for this girl in the future.

I was moving this weekend and missed the entire thing. I never even heard of the winner. Judging by the scores most of the players got their ass handed to them by the golf course. I think it's cool that three players did manage to break par. I'm bummed I had to miss it. Another major tournament, another Korean champion what else is new.

Would it be shallow to make some reference about women's golf played at Broadmoor ? O.k. nevermind then.

Speaking of shallow, the two women in the playoff were pretty cute, I must say. I might worry about backlash from a female OOBer, but I can't say I've seen one yet. Are there any on the site?

Of course oobgolf has female members, but they never get angry about our stupid sexist comments, they're pretty broadminded.
