For fun, here's a picture of my ace!
Cool or Not: 6-Year-Old Shoots Ace
By mustang6560 on 7/12/11
I need you help convincing Andrew he is wrong.

Here is the situation, a six-year-old girl in Illinois recorded a hole in one on the 85-yard third hole at The Links at Ireland Grove last week and Golf.com and SI.com ran the story on their front page. His beef is he thinks an ace on such a short hole is not newsworthy enough to run on the front page of a major website, even if it was by a six-year-old girl. His conclusion is today must be a slow day in news.

I disagree, I think an ace by a six-year-old is very impressive. Sure, it was definitely lucky (it probably requires even more luck for someone so young to ace a hole), but it definitely deserves attention. How many people do you know who have an ace? OK, now, how many people do you know under 10 that have an ace? I thought so, you now know one.

Personally, I can't help but think Andrew still resents my hole in one. I mean, he talks about it now more than I do. We played golf Sunday afternoon and I was talking to the beer cart girl who was wearing an LSU hat and asked if she was an alumni or just a fan and Andrew (who was standing by the water cooler on the first tee) yells back "Did you just mention your hole in one?"

If Andrew's son recorded a hole in hole, I know for sure he'd want to tell the high heavens - as he should. Heck, of all the two-year-old kids I know, Andrew's son has the most natural talent I've seen so if anyone that age is going to get a hole in one it would be him.

I kind of hope Andrew's son does get ace, then we'd both be able to hold it over his head :)

Everything about this is wrong... except the nice things Nathan said about my son. Congrats Nate- you have a new member in your "exclusive club." Personally, I'd never join a club they let 6 year olds in but you know, whatever floats your boat.

Sour grapes Andrew?? The 6 year old made a real hole-in-one. It does not matter if it was from 50 yds. How many on this forum hole out from 50 yds?

@kickntrue - LOL!!! Yea. Who wants one now that a six year old and Nathan can have one?

as long as she bought drinks I think its pretty fantastic. If she didnt buy drinks its weak as hell. I would put my 2 year olds swing up against yours by the way. I have video.

#7 at Pebble Beach is not that much longer from the middle tees.

That said, I've had an impacted ass full of "Regular Joe Makes Hole In One" stories in the news. Enough already.

I don't think it is front page worthy but Andrew is still wrong. 85 yards for a 6 year old girl is quite the feat. She probably used driver. Mustang Sally, Luck goes into every ace ever recorded, I don't think that you made your ace on pure talent.

Thanks, and I agree with @bobhooe, but what kind of drinks would a 6 year old buy? A round of Capri Sun for everyone!

My only ace ever came on a 77 yard hole. I am very proud of that, even if I was put to shame by a 6 year old girl...

This was a six year old girl, for Pete's sake. I've taken my seven and ten year old nieces out to the driving range a couple of times this summer, and they can't even hit the ball 50 yards let alone get it in a tiny little hole from 50 yards. Now at the same time, I played with an 8-year old earlier this summer who could play pretty well, and the longest he could hit his driver was about 150. So an 85-yard hole in one by a six year old girl is, in my opinion, about equivelent to a 140-yard hole in one by a 30 year old.

The golf course where I made my first hole in one congratulated me by allowing me to purchase an $85 golf shirt at the course to commemorate the occasion. The second one netted a $225 Ping putter for being closest to the hole and a $32,000 Mustang GT for the ace. I put vanity plates on it HO-LYN-1.

I fall somewhere in the middle on this. Is it cool? Sure. Am I happy for her? Yeah. Do I hate her because I've never gotten one? Yup. Do I think it should be a big NATIONAL story? No. Should it have been a big LOCAL story? Absolutely.

The only way this should be a national story is if she was playing from the tips.

If you're going to luck out and have a hole in one. What better time than in a tournament?

@m3d... with my luck, I'd be the 2nd person to get a hole-in-one on the car hole.

birdieXris says:
@mjaber - i have recurring nightmares about that. I'm not sure if it works like that or not, but i do know it's scary as heck.

They had me kind of concerned about that too, at the time. They were talking about what to do if someone else made another ace on the same hole. Fortunately I was the only one to have that level of skill that day. I mean lucky bounce.....
