Darren Clarke Is Back To Reality
By mustang6560 on 7/29/11
Darren Clarke's honeymoon is officially over.
The Northern Irishman returned to competitive golf this week at the Irish Open for the first time since winning the Open Championship and faced a harsh reality - life as a professional golfer is tough.
Darren's 1-over 143 total was not good enough to make the cut at the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. So the Open champion will have to wait until next year for the chance to join Nick Faldo and Padraig Harrington as the only two golfers in history to win the Open Championship and the Irish Open.
Golf is a humbling sport. Two weeks ago, Darren was the king of the golf world. His heart-warming victory at Royal St. George's put a smile on the faces of golf fans around the world. Fast forward and Darren is back to reality - missing cuts. It's a good thing Darren milked his celebrations for all that it was worth because all good things must come to an end.
Of "The Tee Amigos", Darren is the only one who missed the cut. Rory McIlroy managed to make a late rally on the back nine today to put himself in contention for the weekend and SURPRISE, Graeme McDowell will also be around for the weekend! Hopefully the '10 U.S. Open champ can build on this momentum as he heads stateside next week for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
Man, Tiger's back and Darren's missing cuts. Maybe golf is finding some normalcy after all...

He's probably still drunk. I know I would be.
Well, least he can keep drinking for another week... he doesn't have to function this weekend :)
