PGA Championship Round 2 Open Thread
By mustang6560 on 8/12/11
People seemed to like the open thread from yesterday's round so I thought we'd try it again. If you've got something to say about round 2, say it here!

Rory McIlroy's wrist injury seems to be OK because he's back in action today. I'm surprised J.P. Fitzgerald, Rory's caddie, did not get blasted more for letting him hit a shot off a tree root. Seems like a situation where you'd want your caddie to speak up, right?

Maybe Jay Townsend was right when he called Team Rory's course management "shocking" at the Irish Open.

Snedeker late = 2 shot penalty on first hole, now +6 and probably not going to make cut now.

Normally I would chalk up the chatter about "Rory's Decision" to just dudes behind a desk, but did you see the size of that tree root? And he tried to cut it down with his 7 iron.

Rocco Mediate withdrew citing an "injury". After an opening round 79, the only thing injured is his pride...

Always tough to follow up an awesome round but Steve Stricker needs to win. He is just too good to not win one of these big ones already.

Can someone help me out here: All the commentary talk about the course and how great it is and the amount of work put into it. Then you have someone like Mickelson call it out and say it's overdone and others criticize modern design. As my favorite course Waverley Country Club in Portland is getting redone at the end of the month citing its want to host a PGA event in the future. I fear length not because I can't hit it far. I fear length because it is going to take away from the atmosphere of the course - they are cutting over 100 trees and not expanding the actual land size to accommodate.

Brandt Snedeker pulled a Dustin Johnson and was late for his tee time and assessed a two-stroke penalty and proceeded to bogey the first. I doubt we see him on the weekend...

@trikai: Length wont kill you; ever... Accuracy and fairways hit are the killer. If you CC does it right, there will still be a T-box arrangement that leaves you at the 6400 to 6500 yds that you currently play from the tips. Also the pros dont like to play constricted courses, it will be more wide open (more area for rough) than before.

Rory is flirting with the cut line at +3. His 'heroism' might be short-lived.

Current Open Champ, Darren Clarke isn't exactly tearing it up out there (currently at +13). What's his excuse? Maybe still hung over from celebrating his Open win.

Trav says:
Watching cut line move - Woods conceivably could make it if he shoots only ("only") 3 under.

I'm interested to see how Luke Donald responds today. He's #1 in the world so he either needs to $h!t or get off the pot.
