Despite its brilliant audition during the Irish Open, R&A boss Peter Dawson said Royal Portrush will have to continue to wait for an opportunity to host The Open Championship.

This is the same mentality that caused Georg Friedrich Händel's "Gloria" (ca. 1709) to lay in the stacks at the Royal Academy of Music, going unverified and unperformed for almost 300 years. Lee Trevino famously joked about the "bluebloods" at the USGA (can of dandruff and all), but his joke might now be better-directed at the R&A's Open Championship committee(s). Laura Branigan did a song called Gloria also. I thought she had the greatest voice, but I never heard anything from her after Gloria. 7/19/12
