Following the 2012 Summer Games in London, Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals, retired from competitive swimming.
At 27-years-young, what is Michael supposed to do with the rest of his life? He's already accomplished several lifetimes of achievements and he's barely old enough to rent a car. Well, Michael wants to play golf, and he's agreed to be Hank Haney's next project on The Golf Channel's reality show "The Haney Project". "I'm excited about this project with Golf Channel and I'm looking forward to working with Hank and see what we can do together on the golf course," Phelps said in an announcement Saturday.Of all the celebrities Hank has worked with in the past, Michael is by far the best and most compelling - I'm sorry but I had no interest in Sugar Ray Leonard, Mario Batali, Adam Levine, and Angie Everhart. By signing Michael, Hank effectively saved his show for at least two more seasons. read more Read an interesting golf article? Part of me says he's got that lanky, jerky sort of tall guy swing, but another part would love to see a beautiful smooth swing and have him do something great with it. Wouldn't that be something to see Phelps in a Web.com event? 8/14/12
Hank can tattle on all the naughty things Michael P does while learning to play golf. 8/14/12
I'll watch it. I had pretty much given up on the show after the last group, and Limbaugh before that. Too much TV, not enough golf. 8/14/12
Michael is a great athelete and Im sure that with Hank's tutoring he will be able to improve his game and play well... he's focus, determined and def has what it takes to win! Phelps will not stop until he will get what he wants out of the game of golf! 8/14/12
beisenhauer says:
Actually, I could've watched a whole season of just Angie Everhart, regardless of whether she ever picked up a club. 8/14/12
Totally agree with Beisenhauer! Angie... Angie... She was a hot one - with a temper to match! On-topic: I remember seeing something about Phelps and golf a couple years ago or so. I'll probably watch this Haney Project, if only to learn more about Phelps the person. 8/14/12
I agree with Matt! The Haney Project, and most of the Golf Channel shows, spend too much time on the drama and the hype. Rather than showing the same footage and sound bites of a clutch putt three or four times in one episode, I would prefer to see more new content. Every non - tournament show follows the same formula: content preview, content and content recap. How about just content? I think my new motto will be, "Less TV - More Golf!" 8/14/12
I don't understand why he doesn't just try to get more Olympic medals. make it almost impossible for people to catch you. 31 is not too old to be competitive. 8/14/12
i watched 1/2 of 1 episode last time around. no one wanted to watch that group of 4. hopefully phelps will be interesting and will follow directions. 8/19/12
