Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. By mustang6560 on 8/14/12
Remember Charlie Beljan? Well, our friend and fellow oober managed to get himself in a little trouble with the PGA Tour - his employer.
Following the announcement that Paul Ryan, a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, will be Mitt Romney's running mate in the U.S. Presidential Election, Charlie took to Twitter to express his happiness. And that's exactly how he ended up in hot water with the PGA Tour. ![]() Obviously, Charlie doesn't like President Obama, which is kosher because everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. However, there is a time and a place and a way to express your opinion and calling the POTUS a "D Bag" and linking him to the scandal at Penn State on Twitter is none of the above. I'm willing to give Charlie the benefit of the doubt and chalk up his tweet to a momentary lapse of judgement. But, he's a professional golfer now and he can't shoot from the hip anymore because people are watching (apparently). And in case you were wondering, yes, Charlie deleted his Twitter account. Was he coerced to do so by the PGA Tour? Probably so. read more Read an interesting golf article? Tip Your Editor Image via PGA Tour [ comments ]
darn. and here i was happy that an oober made it to the PGA tour.... *sigh* Well, i guess Player is our last hope then. :) 8/14/12
Pretty sucky from Chuck- but to at least set the record straight- the PGA Tour is not Mr. Beljan's employer. They are his primary source of income- but he is an independent contractor playing in their events. They can ban him, fine him, etc, but he doesn't actually work for them. 8/14/12
Andrew makes an excellent point (as usual). Back in the day, Michael Jordan (who has had a lucrative endorsement contract with Nike) refused to endorse a black Democrat running for Congress from North Carolina because, and I quote, "Republicans buy sneakers, too." The moral of the story is that sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. Charlie, I hope you learned your lesson. :) 8/14/12
Ppl like Charlie should not use words like holla. White kids appropriating hip hop or urban slang that they learned from rap records; what can you say, its a blight on society. Our education system is failing, kids can barely communicate a coherent thought. 8/15/12
"White kids appropriating hip hop or urban slang that they learned from rap records; what can you say, its a blight on society." I think you just joined the Charlie club. 8/15/12
LB is right: Kids of *any* ethnic ancestry using hip-hop/urban slang is a blight on our society. I know plenty of people born outside the United States who feel they still have trouble with English, and yet they are (and sound) *far* more intelligent and coherent than the hip-hop people - kids *or* adults. 8/15/12
Word! Besides, the correct spelling of an elongated 'holla' clearly involves multiple 'a's, not 'l's. Who doesn't know that? 8/15/12
Public figures should avoid discussing politics or religion. This applies to golfers as well as politicians. 8/16/12
